⁴ But if thou dost that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the servant of God, an avenger for wrath against him that doth evil.

¹ Him that is weak in the faith, receive; but not to doubtful disputations.

³⁰ For we know him that hath said, Vengeance is mine; I will recompence: and again, The Lord will judge his people.

² To speak evil of no man, not to be quarrelsome, to be gentle, shewing all meekness toward all men. ³ Not given to wine, no striker, not desirous of filthy gain, but gentle, patient, not loving money;

³⁸ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. ³⁹ But I say unto you, that ye resist not the evil man: but whosoever shall smite thee on the right-cheek, turn to him the other also;

⁵² Then said Jesus to him, Put up again thy sword into its place; for all they that take the sword, shall perish by the sword. ⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now ask my Father, and he will presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
