⁶ We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown, yet a wisdom not of this world nor of the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing. ⁷ But we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds for our glory, ⁸ which none of the rulers of this world has known. For had they known it, they wouldn’t have crucified the Lord of glory. ⁹ But as it is written, “Things which an eye didn’t see, and an ear didn’t hear, which didn’t enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him.” ¹⁰ But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

²¹ For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.

¹⁸ Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection.

¹⁶ Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, ¹⁷ which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. ¹⁸ Let no one rob you of your prize by self-abasement and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, ¹⁹ and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth.

¹ When I came to you, brothers, I didn’t come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. ² For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. ³ I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. ⁴ My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, ⁵ that your faith wouldn’t stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

²⁰ Timothy, guard that which is committed to you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of what is falsely called knowledge,

¹³ We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

⁹ but shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. ¹⁰ Avoid a factious man after a first and second warning,

⁸ Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

¹ “Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine. ² Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore. ³ Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness. ⁴ He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth. ⁵ As for the earth, out of it comes bread. Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire. ⁶ Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold. ⁷ That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it. ⁸ The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there. ⁹ He puts his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots. ¹⁰ He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing. ¹¹ He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings out to light. ¹² “But where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man doesn’t know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’ ¹⁵ It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither will it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention will be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia will not equal it, nor will it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’ ²³ “God understands its way, and he knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky. ²⁵ He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder, ²⁷ then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out. ²⁸ To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
