¹ A Psalm by David. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall want nothing. ² In a verdant pasture he hath fixed my abode. He hath fed me by gently flowing water ³ and restored my soul. He hath led me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. ⁴ For though I walk amidst the shades of death: I will fear no ills, because thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff have been my comfort. ⁵ Thou hast spread a table before me; in the presence of them who afflict me. With oil thou hast anointed my head; and thine exhilarating cup is the very best. ⁶ Thy mercy will surely follow me all the days of my life; and my dwelling shall be in the house of the Lord to length of days.

¹³ Let us seize his precious substance and fill our houses with spoils.

⁴⁷ Now that servant who knew his master's will, and did not keep himself ready, nor act agreeably to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes; ⁴⁸ but he who did not know it, and did things deserving chastisement, shall be beaten with few. For to whom much is given, of him much will be required. And the more a man is entrusted with, the more will be demanded from him.

²³ For verily I say to you, If one should say to that mountain, Be thou lifted up and cast into the sea; and have no doubt in his mind, but believe that what he saith cometh to pass; whatever he may command shall be done for him. ²⁴ Therefore I say to you, What things soever you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive, and you shall have them.

²⁸ Let the stealer steal no more; but rather labour, and procure honestly with the work of his hands, that he may have wherewithal to relieve the needy.

³³ I have coveted no man's silver or gold, or raiment. ³⁴ Even you yourselves know that these very hands have ministered to my wants, and to the supply of them who were with me. ³⁵ On all occasions I have suggested to you that you ought thus to labour, and support the indigent, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, "It is a greater happiness to give, than to receive."

²⁴ No man can serve two masters: for he will either hate one and love the other; or he will attend to one and neglect the other. You cannot serve God and a worldly temperent

³⁵ On all occasions I have suggested to you that you ought thus to labour, and support the indigent, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, "It is a greater happiness to give, than to receive."

⁵ Mortify, therefore, with regard to your members which are on earth, fornication, uncleanness, inordinate passions, wicked desire, and that licentiousness, which is idolatry,

¹⁵ Love not the world nor the things in the world. If any one loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him

¹⁵ Then he said to them, Take heed and be upon your guard against covetousness. For in what affluence soever a man may be, his life doth not depend on his possessions.

¹⁹ Such are the ways of all who commit iniquitous deeds. For by wickedness they destroy their own soul.

¹² Are all things lawful for me! All things however are not expedient. Are all things lawful for me! I however will not be a slave to any thing.

¹⁵ Love not the world nor the things in the world. If any one loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pomp of this life are not of the Father, but are of the world. ¹⁷ Now the world is passing away, and the desire thereof; but he who doth the will of God shall abide forever.

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil; to gratify which, some have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁵ Let your conduct be free from avarice. Be content with what you have; for he hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor will I ever forsake thee."

¹¹ Wealth acquired by injustice, diminisheth; but he who gathereth for himself with piety, shall be satisfied. A righteous man sheweth mercy and lendeth.
