¹⁸ For many walk of whom I have frequently told you, and now tell you with tears, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ. ¹⁹ Their end is destruction; their God is their belly; and their glory is their shame. Their minds are bent on earthly things.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and detraction, be banished from among you, with malice of every sort; ³² and be kind to one another, tenderly compassionate, forgiving one another. And as God hath in Christ forgiven you,

² and be not conformed to this world; but transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may know experimentally what the will of God is, which is good and acceptable and perfect.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest"they are these"adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, fascinations, enmities, strifes, emulations, .animosities, contentions, factions, sects, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and the like, of which I forewarn you, as I have indeed before declared that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God:

¹ Take heed not to practise your righteousness before men in order to be observed by them; otherwise you have no reward from your father who is in heaven. ² Therefore when thou dost an act of charity, sound not a trumpet before thee as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets that they may be extolled by men. Verily I say to you, they have their reward. ³ But when thou art doing an act of charity, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand is doing; ⁴ that thine act of charity may be in secret; and thy father who seeth in secret will himself reward thee openly. ⁵ And when thou prayest, be not like the hypocrites. Because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets that men may observe them; verily I say to you, They have their reward. ⁶ But as for thee, when thou wouldst pray, retire to thy closet, and having shut the door pray to thy father who is in secret, and thy father who seeth in secret will reward thee openly. ⁷ And when you pray, use not a vain multiplicity of words as the heathen do. For they think they shall be heard for their much speaking.

¹⁵ Love not the world nor the things in the world. If any one loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pomp of this life are not of the Father, but are of the world.

⁵ Let your conduct be free from avarice. Be content with what you have; for he hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor will I ever forsake thee."
