⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, If any one will keep this doctrine of mine, he shall never see death.

¹⁴ Now to such as these Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold the Lord is coming with his holy myriads ¹⁵ to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the wicked among them of all their impious deeds, which they have impiously committed, and of all the bitter things which impious sinners have uttered against him." ¹⁶ They are discontented mumurers, walking after their own lusts. Though their mouth speaketh swelling words, they hold persons in admiration for the sake of gain.

¹⁷ And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and brought forth Enoch. And he employed himself in building a city and he called the city Enoch after his son's name.

As for others, some were tortured, not expecting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection; ³⁶ and others received the trial of mockings, and scourgings, besides bonds and imprisonments. ³⁷ They were stoned; they were sawn asunder; they were tempted; they were slain with the sword; they wandered about in sheep skins, in goats skins, destitute, afflicted, tormented, ³⁸ [of whom the world was not worthy] wandering in deserts, and mountains, and dens, and caves of the earth. ³⁹ Though these all received a testimonial by means of their belief, they did not obtain the promise, ⁴⁰ God having provided something better for us, that without us they should not be made perfect.
