^{1 (1:1)} IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² This [Word] was in the beginning with God. ³ All things existed through him, and without him not one thing existed, which existed. ⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of men; ⁵ and the light shone in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not. ^{6 (1:2)} There was a man, sent by God, whose name was John. ⁷ This man came for a testimony, to testify of the light, that all might believe through him. ⁸ He was not the light, but to testify of the light. ⁹ The light was the true [light] which lights every man that comes into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world existed through him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came to his own, and his own received him not. ¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become sons of God, to them that believe on his name, ¹³ who are born not of superior blood, nor of a will of the flesh, nor of a will of man, but of God. ^{14 (1:3)} And the Word became flesh and tabernacled with us and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only child with a father, full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John testified of him, and cried, saying, This is the one of whom I said, He that comes after me existed before me, for he was before me. ¹⁶ For we all have received of his fullness, and grace for grace; ¹⁷ for the law was given by Moses, the grace and truth were by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he declared [him]. ^{19 (2:1)} AND this is the testimony of John, when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who are you? ²⁰ And he confessed and denied not, and confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² Then they said to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us; what say you of yourself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said. ^{24 (2:2)} And those sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said to him, Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them saying, I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you know not. ²⁷ He is the one coming after me, the strings of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. ²⁸ These things occurred in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ^{29 (2:3)} On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who was before me, for he was before me. ³¹ And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, for this reason have I come baptizing with water. ³² And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descend like a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ And I knew him not, but he that sent me to baptize with water, he said to me, On whom you see the Spirit descend and remain on him, this is he that baptizes with the Holy Spirit. ³⁴ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. ^{35 (2:4)} On the next day John was again standing, and two of his disciples, ³⁶ and looking at Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God. ³⁷ And his two disciples heard him say this, and followed Jesus. ³⁸ And Jesus turning around, and seeing them following, said to them, What do you seek? And they said to him, Rabbi, which interpreted signifies Teacher, where do you stay? ³⁹ He said to them, Come and see. Then they went and saw where he staid, and staid with him that day; it was about the tenth hour. ⁴⁰ Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him; ⁴¹ he first found his brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Messiah; which is interpreted, Christ [Anointed]. ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking at him said, You are Simon, the son of Jonas; you shall be called Cephas; which is interpreted, Peter [Rock]. ^{43 (2:5)} On the next day he wished to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, Follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, See an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile. ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, Whence do you know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree I saw you. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to you I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these. ⁵¹ And he said to him, I tell you most truly, you shall see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

³ knowing this first, that in the last days scoffers shall come with scoffing walking after their inordinate desires, ⁴ and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the world. ⁵ For of this they are willingly ignorant, that the heavens were of old, and the earth was made of water and by water by the word of God, ⁶ by which the world that then was, being overflowed with water, was destroyed.

^{8 (2:2)} But let not this one thing escape you, beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

²⁰ For his invisible [attributes] are clearly seen from the creation of the world, being perceived by the things which are made, even his eternal power and deity, so that they have no defense, ²¹ because having known God they glorified him not as God neither were thankful, but became vain in their reasonings and their ignorant mind was darkened. ²² Saying that they were wise they became foolish, ²³ and changed the glory of the imperishable God into the likeness of the image of perishable man, and of birds, and quadrupeds, and reptiles. ^{24 (2:2)} Wherefore God also gave them up with the desires of their hearts to impurity, to disgrace their bodies among themselves, ²⁵ who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creation more than the Creator, who is blessed forever, amen. ^{26 (2:3)} Therefore God gave them up to infamous affections; for their females changed a natural enjoyment for that which is against nature, ²⁷ and in like manner also the males, leaving the natural enjoyment of the female, became the subjects of inordinate desires for each other, males with males committing indecency, and receiving in return the recompense of their error which was fit.

^{8 (1:6)} See that no one leads you off as a prey through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

^{1 (4:4)} But faith is a confidence in respect to things hoped for, a conviction of things not seen. ² For by it the ancients obtained a good repute. ³ We know by faith that the worlds were made by the word of God, that the seen was not made from the apparent.

¹⁶ for by him were all things created which are in heaven and on the earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones, or lordships, or principalities, or powers. All things were created through him and for him, ¹⁷ and he is before all things, and in him all things consist,

³ All things existed through him, and without him not one thing existed, which existed.
