¹ Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship. ² And do not be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good, and acceptable, and perfect.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² Teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; ¹³ Looking for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ Who gave himself up for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people of his own, zealous for good works.

⁸ But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good, sensible, just, holy, self-controlled;

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks about, seeking someone he may devour.

¹² Teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: therefore be of sound mind and sober judgement for prayer.

²⁷ But I beat my body, and bring it into subjection: lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.

²⁴ Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. ²⁵ And every man who competes is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown; but we an imperishable. ²⁶ Therefore, I do not run aimlessly; and I do not fight as one who beats the air: ²⁷ But I beat my body, and bring it into subjection: lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.

⁵ For this very reason, give all diligence to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge self-control; and to self-control perseverance; and to perseverance godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love.

⁷ For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of self-discipline.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ Gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law.

¹³ No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to endure; but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
