¹⁵ He said to them, But who do you say that I am? ¹⁶ Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah: for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

⁶ But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins, (then he said to the paralytic,) Arise, take up your mat, and go to your house. ⁷ And he arose, and departed to his house. ⁸ But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

¹⁹ Then at evening of the same day, the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, Peace be with you. ²⁰ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you: as my Father has sent me, even so I send you. ²² And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit: ²³ If you forgive the sins of any one, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any one, they are retained.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you, and for your children, and for all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

⁶ Who will render to every man according to his deeds: ⁷ To those who by patience in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: ⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ There shall be tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man who does evil, first for the Jew, and also for the Greek; ¹⁰ But glory, honour, and peace for every man who does good works, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek: ¹¹ For there is no partiality with God.

²⁰ Do you want to be shown, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² You see that faith was active with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. ²⁵ And in the same way was not Rahab the prostitute justified by works, when she received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.

¹² Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence, but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ¹³ For it is God who works in you both to will and to do his good pleasure.

¹⁰ And to the married I give this command, not I, but the Lord, Let the wife not depart from her husband: ¹¹ But if she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let the husband not divorce his wife.

⁷ For I wish that all men were as I am. But every man has his proper gift from God, one of this type, and another of that. ⁸ Therefore I say to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them to remain single, as I am.

³² I would have you be without concern. He who is unmarried is concerned for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: ³³ But he who is married is concerned for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife, ³⁴ And his interests are divided. And the unmarried woman or the virgin cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she who is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

¹⁵ Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold to the traditions which you have been taught by us, whether by word, or by letter.

⁶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from every brother who is idle and does not walk according to the tradition which you received from us.

¹ Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ. ² Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things, and keep the traditions, just as I delivered them to you.
