¹² And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold.

¹³ Those on the rock are the ones, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but they have no root; they believe for a while, but in time of temptation fall away.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they shall gather up teachers for themselves to suit their own desires;

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, leading you to turn away from the living God.

¹ Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² Taught by hypocritical liars; who have their consciences seared as with a hot iron; ³ Forbidding marriage, and commanding abstinence from foods which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

¹⁷ But you, beloved, seeing that you know these things beforehand, beware lest you also, being led away by the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁰ And then shall many fall away, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

⁸ But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be eternally accursed. ⁹ As we said before, so now I say again, If any man preach any other gospel to you than that which you have received, let him be eternally accursed.

¹ But know this also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ Without natural affection, implacable, false accusers, intemperate, fierce, despisers of good, ⁴ Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God; ⁵ Holding to a form of godliness, but denying its power. From such men turn away. ⁶ For among them are those who creep into houses, and lead captive weak-willed women laden with sins, led away by various desires, ⁷ Ever learning, but never able to acknowledge the truth. ⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres defied Moses, so these men also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, rejected as concerns the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be made clear to all, as was that of those two.

³ Let no man deceive you in any way: for that day shall not come, until there is first a falling away, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition;

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ But a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He who despised Moses' law died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses: ²⁹ How much more severe punishment do you suppose he shall deserve, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has affronted the Spirit of grace?

⁴ For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, ⁶ If they shall fall away, to be brought back again to repentance; for they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and hold him up to public disgrace. ⁷ For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful for those by whom it is farmed, receives a blessing from God: ⁸ But that which bears thorns and thistles is worthless, and is near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by them, and overcome, they are worse off in the end than at the beginning. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog returns to its own vomit; and the sow that is washed returns to wallowing in the mire.
