¹ Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your husbands; so that, if any do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the behaviour of the wives; ² When they behold your chaste and reverent behaviour. ³ Let your beauty not be in outward adornment; the plaiting of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of apparel; ⁴ But let it be of the inner person of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. ⁵ For in this manner the holy women in days of old, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, and were submissive to their husbands. ⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ²⁶ Behold the birds of the air: they do not sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? ²⁷ Which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to the span of his life? ²⁸ And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they do not toil, nor do they spin: ²⁹ And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? ³¹ Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed? ³² After all these things the Gentiles seek: but your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things. ³³ But seek first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? ²⁰ For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

⁹ In like manner also, let women adorn themselves in proper apparel, modestly and soberly; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire; ¹⁰ But with good works, as becomes women professing godliness.
