¹⁶ »You did not choose me. I chose you and appointed you. You should go and bear fruit and your fruit should remain. Whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

¹⁶ The eleven disciples went into Galilee to the mountain where Jesus specified. ¹⁷ When they saw him, they bowed down in adoration for him. But some doubted (were lacking faith). ¹⁸ Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying: »All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. ¹⁹ »Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ »Teach them to observe all the things I have commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.«

¹⁷ Jesus said: Follow me and I will teach you to catch people. ¹⁸ They immediately left the nets and went with him. ¹⁹ Jesus then saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat preparing their nets to go fishing. ²⁰ Jesus called them and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and went with Jesus.

¹⁷ But as God has distributed to every person so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the congregations. ¹⁸ Is any man called being circumcised? He should not become uncircumcised. Is any called who is not circumcised? He should not be circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing. Obey the commandments of God. ²⁰ Each man should remain in the same condition in which he was called. ²¹ Were you called being a slave? Do not let it worry you. But if you can become free, do so. ²² He who is called in the Lord, being a slave, is the Lord's freeman. Likewise also he who is called, being free, is Christ's slave. ²³ You are bought with a price. Stop being slaves of men. ²⁴ Brothers, let every man remain in the condition in which he was called. Abide with God.

¹ I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, invite you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called. ² Walk with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, putting up with one another in love. ³ Diligently try to keep the unity (oneness) of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ⁴ There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling. ⁵ There is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. ⁶ There is one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. ⁷ But unto each one of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. ⁸ Therefore it says: »When he ascended on high, he led captives, and gave gifts to men (anthropos: human beings).« ⁹ (Now this, He ascended, what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) ¹¹ He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers. ¹² This is for the perfecting (equipping) (preparing) of the holy ones, for the work of ministering, for the building up of the body of Christ:

¹⁴ »Many are called, but few chosen.«

¹¹ ‘I know the plans (intentions) (thoughts) that I have for you, says Jehovah. They are plans (intentions) for peace and not disaster. They are intentions to give you a future filled with hope.

¹⁸ »The Spirit of Jehovah is upon me. He anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind. To set at liberty those who are bruised.

⁴ For we have many members in one body and all members do not have the same function. ⁵ These many members are one body in Christ, and every one, individually, is a member one of the other. ⁶ We have gifts that differ according to the grace that is given to us. Whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; ⁷ or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he who teaches on teaching; ⁸ or he who exhorts; on exhortation; he who gives let him do it with liberality; he who rules, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
