¹¹ Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead reprove (expose) (convict) them.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for the fatherless persons and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself without spot from the world.

¹² The man who endures under trial is blessed. For when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life that God promised to those who love him. ¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted: »God tempts me.« God cannot be tempted with evil, and he tempts (entices) (tests) (trys) no one. ¹⁴ Each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his evil desire (lust). He is enticed (allured). ¹⁵ Then evil desires, when conceived, give birth to sin: and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

²³ Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it come the source of life.

²⁰ »That which comes out of the man defiles the man. ²¹ »It is from the heart that evil thoughts come such as: fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, ²² coveting, wickedness, deceit, loose conduct, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. ²³ »All these evil things come from within and defile the man.«

⁶ Love does not rejoice with evil, but rejoices with the truth.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh (sinful human nature) are apparent. They are: fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, wrath, contentions, divisions, sects, ²¹ envies, drunkenness, revelries, and things like these. I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that those who practice such things would not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ I will set no wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of unfaithful people. I want no part of it.

²⁷ »You have heard it was said, ‘You should not commit adultery.’ ²⁸ »However, I tell you that whoever looks at a woman with lustful thoughts commits adultery with her in his heart. ²⁹ »If your right eye causes you to sin, take it out and throw it away! It is better to lose a part of your body then to have your whole body destroyed in the ever-burning fires of the Valley of Hinnom. ³⁰ »If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better to lose part of your body, than for your whole body to be destroyed in the ever-burning fire. (Figuratively: lose prospect for everlasting life; ever-burning fire means total destruction.)

¹¹ For the grace (divine influence) of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all men, ¹² instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present age (world) (period of time).

⁵ Make your members that are upon the earth dead with regard to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (greed), which is idolatry.

¹² All things are lawful to me, but all things are not expedient (profitable) (good). All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the authority (power) (control) of anything.

⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.
