¹ The people complained out loud to Jehovah about their troubles. Jehovah heard them and he became angry. Fire from Jehovah burned among them. It destroyed some people on the outskirts of the camp. ² The people cried out to Moses. Moses prayed to Jehovah! And the fire died down. ³ That place was called Taberah (Fire) because fire from Jehovah burned among them there. ⁴ Some foreigners among the Israelites had a strong craving for other kinds of food. ² Do not be conformed to this world (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement). But be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

¹⁴ Do all things without complaining (grumbling) (murmuring) and questioning (disputing). ¹⁵ That way you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. You are seen as lights in the world. ¹⁶ Hold fast to the word of life so I may rejoice in the day of Christ. That way I will not have labored in vain.

¹² My beloved, you have always obeyed, not just in my presence, but now much more in my absence. ⁸ Moses said: »This will happen when Jehovah gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to eat in the morning. Jehovah hears your complaints against him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against Jehovah.«

⁹ Do not complain (utter a deep sigh) against one another, that you not be judged. Behold, the judge is standing at the door.

¹⁸ In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

¹⁰ Do not grumble like some of them grumbled. Venomous snakes killed them.

²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth. Speak what is good for understanding as the need may be, that it may give grace (divine favor) to those who hear.
