¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you are going.

¹¹ We have many things to say about him and it is hard to explain it to you, for you are dull of hearing (slow to learn). ¹² At this time you should be teachers. But you need someone to teach you again from the beginning the elementary truths from the Word of God. You need milk, not solid food.

That day should not overtake you by surprise as a thief would. ⁵ You are all the children (sons) of light, and the children of the day. We are not of the night, not of darkness. ⁶ Therefore, let us not sleep like others do. But let us watch and be sober. ⁷ They that sleep do so in the night. They that get drunk are drunk in the night. ⁸ Let us be sober and put on the breastplate of faith and love; and the hope of salvation as a helmet. ⁹ For God has not appointed us to experience his wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ He died for us, that, whether we are awake in this life or sleep in death, we should live together with him. ¹¹ Comfort each other and strengthen one another as you are doing.

³⁹ »You search (investigate) (study) the Scriptures because you think that in them you have everlasting life. These Scriptures testify about me. ⁴⁰ »And yet you will not come to me that you may have life.

³⁸ »To avoid temptation watch and pray. The spirit truly is willing but the flesh is weak.« ³⁹ Again he went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. ⁴⁰ He came and found them asleep again. They did not know what to say to him. ⁴¹ He came a third time and said to them: »Sleep and take your rest. It is enough the hour has come. Look, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners!

¹⁷ He that knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.

¹⁹ The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns. But the way of the righteous is a wide path.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor evil and cling to good. ¹⁰ Be devoted to one another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another. ¹¹ Do not lag behind in diligence. Be fervent in spirit serving God. ¹² Rejoice in hope! Be patient in tribulation. Continue in prayer. ¹³ Contribute to the needs of the holy ones and practice hospitality.

¹⁶ Make the most of your time (redeem or ransom back time), because the days are evil.

¹⁵ »'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. ¹⁶ »'Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in his mighty strength. ¹¹ Put on the full armor (every implement) of God, that you may be able to stand against the cunning (inventive) (clever) methods of the devil. ¹² Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine. Having their ears tickled, they will accumulate teachers who follow after their own lusts. ⁴ They will turn their ears away from the truth, and turn aside to myths (fiction).

² »'Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain that are at the point of death: for I have not found your works perfect (completed) before God.

¹² »At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps. I will punish the men that are satisfied with their wayward lifestyle. They say in their heart, ‘Jehovah will not do good and he will not do evil.’ ¹³ »Their wealth will be looted. Their homes will be demolished. They will build houses. However they will not live in them! They will plant vineyards. But they will not drink their wine!

¹¹ Do not lag behind in diligence. Be fervent in spirit serving God.

¹⁶ »'Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
