⁵ It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts." Job did so continually.

¹¹ For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

¹⁴ Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Fear the LORD, and depart from evil. ⁸ It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones. ⁹ Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: ¹⁰ so your storehouses will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine. ¹¹ My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor resent his correction. ¹² For whom the LORD loves he disciplines, and punishes every son he accepts. ¹³ Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed ¹⁹ By wisdom the LORD founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens. ²⁰ By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew. ²¹ My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion: ²² so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck. ²³ Then you shall walk in your way securely, and your foot won't stumble. ²⁴ When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. ²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, or of the storm of the wicked when it comes: ²⁶ for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken. ²⁷ Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. ²⁸ Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you," when you have it by you. ²⁹ Do not devise evil against your neighbor, seeing he dwells securely by you. ³⁰ Do not strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm. ³¹ Do not envy the man of violence. What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said." ²⁴ (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) ²⁵ And they asked him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you do not know. ²⁷ He is the one who comes after me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen." ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.' ³¹ I did not know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel." ³² And John testified, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ And I did not recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, this is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One of God." ³⁵ Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples, ³⁶ and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Look, the Lamb of God." ³⁷ And the two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. ³⁸ And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?" ³⁹ He said to them, "Come, and you will see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. ⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah." (which is translated, Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which is translated, Peter). ⁴³ On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus said to him, "Follow me." ⁴⁴ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit." ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are King of Israel." ⁵⁰ Jesus answered him, "Because I told you, 'I saw you underneath the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." ⁵¹ And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

¹² "Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place;

⁶ My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning; more than watchmen for the morning.

⁵ For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

³ LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and watch.

²² The LORD's faithful love does not cease; his compassion does not fail. ²³ They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

⁸ Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.
