⁵¹ Truly, truly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death."

¹⁸ Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and became the father of Hanoch. ¹⁹ Jared lived after he became the father of Hanoch eight hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²⁰ All the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, then he died. ²¹ Hanoch lived one hundred and sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah. ²² Hanoch walked with God after he became the father of Methuselah two hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²³ All the days of Hanoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. ²⁴ Hanoch walked with God, and then he was not there, for God took him.

⁵ By faith, Hanoch was taken away, so that he would not see death, "and he was not found, because God took him away." ¹⁴ About these also Hanoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Look, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, ¹⁵ to execute judgment on all, and to convict every person of all their works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." ¹⁶ These are murmurers and complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaks proud things), showing respect of persons to gain advantage.

¹⁷ Cain had marital relations with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Hanoch. He built a city and called the name of the city after the name of his son, Hanoch.

¹ Now faith is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see. ² For by this, the people of old were attested. ³ By faith, we understand that the ages were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible. ⁴ By faith, Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he was attested as righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and though he died he still speaks through it. ⁵ By faith, Hanoch was taken away, so that he would not see death, "and he was not found, because God took him away." Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. ¹⁷ By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac; and he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son; ¹⁸ even he to whom it was said, "In Isaac will your descendants be called;" ¹⁹ concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead.
