²⁰ before time And Iacob vowed a vowe sayinge: If God wyll be wyth me, and wyll kepe me in thys iourney whyche I goo, and wyll gyue me breade to eate, and clothes to put on, ²¹ so that I come againe vnto mi fathers house in saftye, then shall the Lorde be my God, ²² & thys stone whyche I haue sette vp an ende, shall be Goddes house: and of all that thou shalte gyue me, wyll I gyue the tenth vnto the.

⁴ Either when a soule sweareth: so that he pronounceth wyth his lyps to do euil or to do good (whatsoeuer it be that a man pronounceth wyth an othe) and the thynge be out of hys mynde & afterwarde cometh to the knowelege of it, then he hath offended in one of these. ⁵ Then when he hath synned in one of these thynges, he shall confesse that wherin he hath synned, ⁶ and shall brynge hys trespaceofferyng vnto the Lorde for hys synne which he hath synned. A female from the flocke whether it be a Lambe or a she goote for a synneofferyng. And the priest shal make an atonement for hym for hys synne. ⁷ But if he be not able to brynge a Shepe, then lette hym bryng for his trespace whych he hath sinned two turtle doues or two yong pygeons vnto the Lord, one for a synne offering and another for a burnt offeryng. ⁸ And he shall bring them vnto the Prieste whyche shall offer the synneoffering fyrst, & wring the necke a sunder of it, but plucke it not cleane of. ⁹ And let hym sprynkle of the bloude of the synneofferynge vpon the syde of the aulter, and let the rest of the bloude blede vpon the bottome of the alter, & then it is a synneofferyng. ¹⁰ And let hym offer the second for a burntofferinge as the maner is: & so shall the prieste make an atonemente for hym for the synne whych he hath synned, and it shalbe forgeuen him. ¹¹ And yet if he be not able to bringe two turtyll doues or two yonge Pygeons, then lette hym bryng hys offeryng for hys synne the tenth parte ef an Epha of fyne floure for a synneofferynge, but putt none oyle therto neyther put any franckencense theron, for it is a synneoffering. ¹² And let hym bringe it to the prieste, & the priest shall take his handfull of it, and burne it vpon the alter for a remembraunce to be a sacrifice for the Lord: that is a synneoffering. ¹³ And let the prieste make an attonemente for hym for hys synne (whatsoeuer of these he hath synned) and it shall be forgeuen. And the remnaunte shall be the pristes, as it is in the meatofferynge.

¹¹ and vowed a vowe and said: Lord of hostes, yf thou wylt loke on the wretchednesse of thyne handmayde, and shalt remembre me, and not forget thyne handmayde, & shalte geue vnto thyne handmayde a manchylde I wyll geue him vnto the Lord, all the dayes of hys lyfe, & there shal neyther raser or sheres come vpon hys heade.

¹³ Therfore wyll I go into thy house wyth brentoffrynges, to paye the my vowes,

¹² Vnto the (O god) wil I paye my vowes, vnto the wyll I geue thankes and prayse.

¹⁴ I wyll paye my vowes in the presence of al his people, ¹⁵ right deare in the syghte of the Lorde is the death of his saynctes. ¹⁶ O Lorde, I am thy seruaunt, I am thy seruant, and the son of thy handmaide, thou hast broken my bondes in sonder. ¹⁷ I wyl offre to the sacrifyce of thanckesgegeuynge, and wyll call vpon the name of the Lord. ¹⁸ I wyll paye my vowes vnto the Lord in the syght of al his people, ¹⁹ in the courtes of the Lordes house, euen in the middest of the, O Ierusalem. Prayse the euerlasting.

²⁵ It is a snare for a man to to blaspheme that which is holy, and then to go aboute wyth vowes.

³³ Agayne ye haue hearde how it was sayed to them of olde time, thou shalt not forsweare thy self, but shalt performe thine othe to God. ³⁴ But I saye vnto you, swere not at al, neither by heauen, for it is Goddes seate: ³⁵ nor yet by the earth, for it is his fotstole: neither by Ierusalem for it is the citye of the great kinge ³⁶ neither shalt thou sweare by thy head, because thou canst not make one whyte hear, or blacke. ³⁷ But your communicacion shalbe, yea, yea: nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more than that cometh to euell.

²⁷ Then shalt thou make thy prayer vnto hym, and he shal heare the, and thou shalt kepe thy promises.

⁸ So wyl I al away syng prayses vnto thy name, that I may dayly perfourme my vowes.

⁵ For thou, O Lord, hast harde my desyres, thou hast geuen an heretage vnto those that feare thy name.

¹ A certain man named Ananyas with Saphira his wyfe solde a possession, ² and kept awaye parte of the price (hys wyfe also beyng of counsel,) and brought a certain parte, and layd it doune at the Apostles fete. ³ Then said Peter. Ananias, how is it, that Sathan hath fylled thyne hert, that thou shouldest lye vnto the holy ghost, and kepe awaye part of the pryce of the lyuelod: ⁴ Pertained it not vnto the onelie, and after it was solde, was not the price in thine owne power? Howe is that, thou hast conceiued this thinge in thyne herte? Thou hast not lied vnto men, but vnto God. ⁵ When Ananias hearde these wordes, he fell doune and gaue vp the ghost. And great feare came on all them that hearde these thinges. ⁶ And the younge men rose vp, and put him a parte and caryed hym out, and buried him. ⁷ And it fortuned as it were aboute the space of thre houres after that hys wyfe came in, ignoraunt of that whiche was done. ⁸ And Peter sayed vnto her: Tell me, gaue ye the lande for so much? And she said: ye for so much. ⁹ Then saied Peter vnto her: why haue ye agreed together to tempte the spiryte of the Lorde? Beholde, the fete of them whiche haue buried thy husbande, are at the dore, and shal cary the out. ¹⁰ Then she fell doune straighte waye at his fete, and yelded vp the ghoste. And the yonge men came in and founde her dead, and caryed her out & buried her by her housbande. ¹¹ And great feare came on al the congregation, and on as manie as hearde it.

¹¹ Loke what ye promise vnto the Lord your God, se that, ye kepe it, all ye that be rounde about him: brynge presentes vnto hym that ought to be feared.

¹ And Moses spake vnto the heades of the trybes of the chyldren of Israell sayinge: thys is the thyng which the Lord commandeth. ² If a man vowe vnto the Lorde or swere an othe and bynde hys soule, he shall not go backe with hys worde: but shal fulfyll all that proceadeth out of his mouth. ³ If a damsell vowe a vowe vnto the Lord and bynde her selfe beyinge in her fathers house and vnmaried. ⁴ If her father heare her vowe & bond which she hath made vpon her soule, & holde hys peace therto: then all her vowes & bondes which she hath made vpon her soule shall stande in effecte. ⁵ But & yf her father forbyd her the same daye that he heareth it, none of her vowes nor bondes whych she hath made vpon her soule shalbe of value, & the Lorde shall forgeue her, because her father forbade her. ⁶ If she had an husband when she vowed or pronounced oughte out of her lyppes wherwith she bonde her soule, ⁷ and her husbande hearde it and helde hys peace there at the same daye he hearde it: Then her vowes and her bondes wherwyth she bounde her soule, shall stande in effecte. ⁸ But and yf her husbande forbade her the same day that the heard it, then hath he made her vowe whyche she had vpon her of none effecte, and that also which she pronounced wt her lyppes wherwyth she bounde her soule, and the lord shal forgeue her. ⁹ The vowe of a wyddowe and of her that is deuorced, and all that they haue bounde their soules wyth all, shall stande in effecte wyth them. ¹⁰ If she vowed in her husbandes house or bounde her soule with an oth, ¹¹ & her husband heard it and helde hys peace and forbade her not: then al her vowes & boundes wherwith she bound her soule, shall stande. ¹² But yf her husband disanulled them the same daye that he heard them, then nothyng that proceded out of her lippes in vowes & boundes wherwith she bounde her soule shall stande in effecte: for her husbande hath loused them. And the Lord shal forgeue her. ¹³ All vowes and othes that bynde to humble the soule, maye her husbande stablyshe or breake. ¹⁴ But yf her husbande holde hys peace from one day vnto another, then he stablysheth al her vowes and bondes whyche she had vpon her, because he helde his peace the same day that he heard them. ¹⁵ And yf he afterward breake them, he shal beare her sinne hym selfe. ¹⁶ These are the ordynaunces whyche the Lord commaunded Moses, betwene a man and hys wyfe, and betwene the father & hys daughter, beyinge a damsell in her fathers house.

²¹ When thou hast vowed a vowe vnto the Lord thy God, se thou be not slacke to paye it. For he wyl surely requyre it of the, and it shalbe sinne vnto the. ²² If thou shalt leaue vowynge, it shalbe no synne vnto the: ²³ but that whych is once gone out of thy lyppes, thou must kepe and do, accordynge as thou hast vowed vnto the Lorde thy God of a frewyl which thou hast spoken with thy mouth.

¹² But about al thinges my brethren, sweare not, neyther by heauen, neyther by earth, neyther by anye other othe. Let your yea be yea and youre naye, naye: leaste ye falle into hypocrysye.

⁴ If thou make a vowe vnto God, be not slacke to perfourme it. As for folish vowes, he hath no pleasure in them. ⁵ If thou promise any thynge, paye it: for better it is that thou make no vowe then that thou shouldest promyse, and not paye. ⁶ Vse not thy mouth to cause thy flesh for to synne, that thou say not before the aungell: my foolishnesse is in the faute. For then God will be angry at thy voyce, & destroye all the workes of thyne handes.
