²⁵ But Iesus called them vnto hym and sayd: Ye know that the Lordes of the gentils haue domination ouer them. And they that are great, exercyse power ouer them. ²⁶ It shall not be so amonge you. But whosoeuer wil be great amonge you, let hym be your minister, ²⁷ and whosoeuer wil be chief, let hym be your seruaunt, ²⁸ euen as the sonne of man came not to be minnistred vnto, but to minister, and to geue his life for the redempcion of many.

⁴² But Iesus called them vnto hym, and sayde to them: Ye knowe that they whiche seme to beare rule amonge the gentyls, raygne as lordes ouer them. And they that be great among them, exercyse authoritie ouer them. ⁴³ So shall it not be among you, but whosoeuer of you wil be great among you shalbe your minister. ⁴⁴ And whosoeuer wilbe chiefe, shalbe seruaunt vnto al. ⁴⁵ For euen the sonne of man came not to be mynystred vnto, but to minister & to geue hys lyfe for the redempcyon of many.

¹⁶ as fre, and not as hauynge the lybertye for a cloke of maliciousnes, but euen as the seruauntes of God.

²⁶ If any man minister vnto me, let hym folowe me, and where I am, there shal also my minister be. And yf any man minister vnto me, hym wyll my father honoure.

¹⁷ And all thinges (whatsoeuer ye do in word or dede) do it in the name of the Lorde Iesu geuinge thankes to God the father by hym.

²¹ submittinge your selues one to another in the feare of God.

¹ Before the feast of Easter when Iesus knew that hys houre was come, that he shulde depart oute of thys worlde vnto the father. When he loued his which were in the worlde, vnto the ende he loued them. ² And when supper was ended, after that the deuyl had put in the herte of Iudas Iscarioth Simons sonne, to betraye hym. ³ Iesus knowyng that the father had geuen all thynges into hys handes, and that he was come from God, and went to God, ⁴ he rose from supper, and layde asyde hys vpper garmentes, & toke a towell, and gyrde hym selfe. ⁵ After that poured he water into a bason, & began to wash hys discyples fete, and to wype them wyth a towell, wherewith he was gyrde. ⁶ Then came he to Symon Peter. And Peter sayde vnto hym: Lorde shalt thou washe my fete? ⁷ Iesus aunswered, and sayed vnto him: what I do, thou wotest not nowe, but thou shalt knowe hereafter. ⁸ Peter sayed vnto him: thou shalt not washe my fete whyle the worlde standeth. Iesus aunswered hym: yf I washe the not, thou shalte haue no parte with me. ⁹ Simon Peter sayed vnto him: Lord not my fete onelye: but also my handes and my heade. ¹⁰ Iesus sayed vnto hym: he that is washed, neadeth not saue to washe hys fete, and is cleane euery whyt. And ye are cleane: but not al. ¹¹ For he knewe hys betrayer. Therfore sayed he: ye are not all cleane. ¹² After he had washed theyr fete, and receyued hys clothes, and was set doune agayne, he sayed vnto them. Wote ye what I haue done to you? ¹³ Ye call me mayster and Lorde, & ye saye well, for so am I. ¹⁴ Yf I then your lord and mayster haue washed your fete, ye also ought to wash one anothers fete. ¹⁵ For I haue geuen you an ensample, that ye shoulde do as I haue done to you. ¹⁶ Verelye verelye I say vnto you: the seruaunte is not greater then hys mayster, neyther the messenger greater then he that sent hym. ¹⁷ Yf ye vnderstande these thynges, happye are ye yf ye do then. ¹⁸ I speake not of you all. I knowe whome I haue chosen. But that the scripture myght be fulfylled, he that eateth bread with me hath lyft vp hys hele agaynst me. ¹⁹ Nowe tell I you before it come, that when it come to passe, ye myght beleue that I am he. ²⁰ Verelye verelye I saye vnto you. He that receyueth whomesoeuer I sende, receyueth me. And he that receyueth me, receyueth him that sent me. ²¹ When Iesus had thus sayed, he was troubled in the spirite, and testifyed, saiynge: verelye verelye I saye vnto you, that one of you shall betraye me. ²² And then the disciples loked one on another, doubtinge of whom he spake. ²³ There was one of hys disciples which leaned on Iesus bosome whome Iesus loued. ²⁴ To him beckened Simon Peter that he shuld axe who it was, of whom he spake. ²⁵ He then as he leaned on Iesus breste sayed vnto hym: Lorde who is it? ²⁶ Iesus aunswered, he it is to whom I geue a sop, when I haue depte it. And he wet a soppe, and gaue it to Iudas Iscaryoth Simons sonne. ²⁷ And after the sop Satan entred into hym. Then sayde Iesus vnto hym: that thou doest, do quickly. ²⁸ That wist no man at the table, for what intent he spake vnto hym. ²⁹ Some of them thought, because Iudas had the bagge, that Iesus had sayed vnto hym, bye those thinges that we haue nede of agaynst the feast: or that he shoulde geue some thyng to the poore. ³⁰ Assone then as he had receyued the sop, he went immediatlye out. And it was nyght. ³¹ When he was gone oute, Iesus sayde: nowe is the sonne of man glorifyed. And God is glorified by hym. ³² Yf God be glorifyed by hym, God shall also glorifye hym in hym selfe, and shall strayghte waye glorifye hym. ³³ Deare chyldren, yet a lytell whyle am I with you, ye shall seke me, and as I sayde vnto the Iewes: whyther I go, thyther can ye not come. Also to you saye I now: ³⁴ A newe commaundement geue I vnto you, that ye loue together, as I haue loued you, that euen so ye loue one another. ³⁵ By thys shall all men knowe that ye are my discyples, yf ye shall haue loue one to another. ³⁶ Simon Peter sayed vnto hym. Lorde whyther goest thou? Iesus aunswered hym: Whether I go thou canste not folowe me now, but thou shalt folow me afterwarde. ³⁷ Peter sayde vnto him: lorde, why can not I folowe the now? I wyll geue my lyfe for thy sake. ³⁸ Iesus aunswered hym: wilte thou geue thy lyfe for my sake? Verelye verelye I saye vnto the, the cocke shall not crowe, tyll thou haue denyed me thryse.

¹ If there be amonge you anye consolation in Christ, yf there be anye comfortable loue, yf there be anye feloweshyp of spirite, yf there be any compassion or mercye, ² fulfyll my ioye that ye drawe one waye hauinge one loue, being of one accorde, and of one minde, ³ that nothing be done thorowe stryfe or vaine glorye, but that in mekenes of mynde euerye man esteme other better then him selfe, ⁴ & that no man considere his owne, but what is meate for other. ⁵ Let the same mynde be in you that was in Christ Iesu: ⁶ Whiche beinge in the shap of God, and thought it not robbery to be equal wt God. ⁷ Neuerthelesse he made hym selfe of no reputation, & toke on him the shap of a seruaunt, and became lyke vnto men, ⁸ and was founde in hys aparell as a man. He humbled hym selfe, and became obediente vnto the death euen the death of the crosse. ⁹ Wherfore God hath exalted hym, and geuen hym a name aboue al names, ¹⁰ that in the name of Iesus should euerye knee bowe, both of thinges in heauen and thinges in earth, and thinges vnder the earth, ¹¹ and that al tounges should confesse that Iesus Christ is the Lorde vnto the prayse of God the father. ¹² Wherfore my dearlye beloued, as ye haue alwayes obeyed, not when I was presente onelye, but nowe much more in myne absence euen so worke out your owne saluacion wt feare and trembling. ¹³ For it is God, whyche worketh in you, both the wyll and also the dede, euen of good wyl. ¹⁴ Do al thinge wythout murmuringe and disputynge, ¹⁵ that ye maye be fauteles & pure, the sonnes of God wythout rebuke, in the middes of a croked and a peruerse nacyon, amonge whiche se that ye shine as lightes in the worlde, ¹⁶ holding fast the worde of life, vnto my reioysing in the daye of Christe, that I haue not runne in vayne, neyther haue laboured in vaine. ¹⁷ Yea, and though I be offered vp vpon the offeringe and sacrifyce of youre fayth: I reioyce, and reioyce wyth you al. ¹⁸ For the same cause also, reioyce ye, and reioyce ye wyth me. ¹⁹ I truste in the Lord Iesus for to sende Timotheus shortely vnto you, that I also maye be of good comforte, when I knowe what case ye stand in. ²⁰ For I haue noman that is so lyke mynded to me, whiche with so pure affeccion careth for youre matters. ²¹ For al other seke theyr owne, and not that whiche is Iesus Christes. ²² Ye knowe the profe of hym, howe that as a sonne with the father, so with me bestowed he his laboure vpon the Gospel ²³ Hym I hope to send assone as I knowe, howe it wyl go with me. ²⁴ I truste in the Lord I also my selfe shal come shortly. ²⁵ I supposed it necessarye to sende brother Epaphroditus vnto you, my companion in laboure and felow souldier, youre Apostle & my minister at my nedes. ²⁶ For he lounged after you, and was full of heauines, because that ye had hearde saye, that he shoulde be sycke. ²⁷ And no dout he was sicke, and that nye vnto death. But God had mercye on hym not on hym onely, but on me also, lest I should haue had sorowe vpon sorowe. ²⁸ I sent him therfore the diligentliar, that when ye shoulde se hym, ye might reioyce againe, and I myght be the lesse sorowfull. ²⁹ Receiue him therfore in the Lorde wyth al gladnes, and make muche of suche: ³⁰ because that for the worke of Christ he went so farre, that he was nye vnto death, and regarded not hys lyfe, to fulfyll that seruice, whiche was lackinge on your part towarde me.

⁷ Neuerthelesse he made hym selfe of no reputation, & toke on him the shap of a seruaunt, and became lyke vnto men,

²⁷ For whether is greater, he that sytteth at meate: or he that serueth? Is not he that sytteth at meate? And I am amonge you, as he that ministreth.
