¹⁴ When thou art come vnto the land which the Lord thy God geueth the and enioyest it and dwellest therin: If thou shalt say, I will set a kynge ouer me: lyke vnto all the nations that are aboute me. ¹⁵ Then thou shalte make him kyng ouer the, whom the Lorde thy God shall chose. One of thy brethren muste thou make kynge ouer the, and mayste not sette a straunger ouer the which is not of thi brethren

¹⁸ And Iesus came and spake vnto them saiynge: all power is geuen vnto me in heauen and in earth.

¹¹ and that ye studye to be quyete, and to medle with youre owne busines, and to worke wyth youre owne handes, as we commaunded you: ¹² that ye may behaue your selues honestly towardes them that are wythout, and that nothinge be lackinge vnto you.

²⁰ But oure conuersation is in heauen, from whence we loke for a sauiour, euen the Lorde Iesus Christ,

¹⁷ Honoure all men. Loue brotherlye felowship. Feare God, and honour the kynge.

⁷ When one of thy brethren among you is waxed poore in any of thy cityes within thy land whych the Lord thy God geueth the, se that thou harden not thyne hert nor shet to thine hand from thy poore brother: ⁸ But open thyne hand vnto him & lende hym suffitiente for hys nede whych he hath. ⁹ And beware that there be not a poynt of Belial in thine hert, that thou wouldest say. The seuenth yere, the yere of fredome is at hand, & therfore it greues the to loke on thy poore brother and geuest hym nought & he then cry vnto the Lord againste the, and it be synne vnto the: ¹⁰ But giue him & let it not greue thine herte to giue. Bycause that for that thinge, the Lorde thy God shall blesse the in all thy workes & in all that thou puttest thyne hand to. ¹¹ For the land shall neuer be wythout pore. Wherfore I commaund the saying: open thine hand vnto thy brother that is neady and pore in thy land.

¹² Blessed are the people that holde the Lorde for their God, & blessed are the folke whome he hath chosen to be hys heretage.

²⁴ No man can serue two maysters. For eyther he shall hate the one & loue the other: yea or eles he shall leane to the one & dispise the other. Ye cannot serue God & Mammon.

²⁹ Peter and the other Apostles aunswered & saied. We ought more to obey God, then men.

¹⁷ Tel vs therfor how thinkest thou. Is it lawful to giue tribute vnto Cesar or not? ¹⁸ Iesus perceyued theyr wickednes, & sayd: Why tempt ye me ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Let me se the tribute money. And they toke him a peny. ²⁰ And he sayd vnto them: whose is thys ymage & superscripcion? ²¹ They sayed vnto him: Cesars. Then sayed he vnto them: Gyue therfore to Cesar, that which is Cesars: And gyue vnto God, that which is Goddes.

⁹ Folysh questions and genealogyes, and braulynge and stryfe aboute the law auoyde: for they are vnprofytable and superfluous.

¹ I exhorte therfore, that aboue al thynges, prayers, supplicacyons intercessyons, and geuynge of thankes be had for all men: ² for kynges, and for all that are in authorytye, that we maye lyue a quyete and a peasable lyfe, in all godlynes and honestye.

¹ Let euery soule submit him selfe vnto the authoritie of the hygher powers. For there is no power but of God. ² The powers that be are ordeyned of God. Whosoeuer therfore resisteth power, resisteth the ordinaunce of GOD. And they that resiste, shall receyue to them selfe damnacyon. ³ For rulars are not to be feared for good workes, but for euyll. Wylte thou be wyth oute feare of the power? Do well then: and so shalte thou be praysed of the same. ⁴ For he is the minister of GOD, for thy welth. But and yf thou do euyll, then feare: for he beareth not a swearde for noughte, but is the minister of God, to take vengeaunce on them that do euyll. ⁵ Wherfore ye muste nedes obeye, not for feare of vengeaunce onelye, but also because of conscience. ⁶ And euen for thys cause paye ye trybute. For they are Goddes ministers, seruynge for the same purpose. ⁷ Geue to euerye man therfore hys dutye: Tribute to whom trybute belongeth: Custome to whom custome is due: feare to whome feare belongeth: Honoure to whom honoure pertayneth.
