¹ To the chaunter vpon Mahalath, an instruccyon of Dauid. The folysh bodyes saye in their hertes: Tush, there is no God. Corrupte are they & become abhomynable in their wyckednesse: there is not one, that doth good.

⁴⁴ No man can come to me: except the father which hath sent me drawe him. And I wyll rayse him vp at the laste day.

³⁷ yf I do not the workes of my father, beleue me not.

²² Lustes of youth auoyde, and folow ryghtuousnes, fayth, loue, & peace, with them that call on the Lorde with pure herte. ²³ Folyshe & vnlearned questions put from the, remembring that they do, but gendre stryfe. ²⁴ But the seruaunt of the Lorde must not stryue, but must be peasable to all men, and apte to teache, and one that can suffre ²⁵ the euyll in meakenes, and can informe them that resiste: yf that God at any tyme wyll geue them repentaunce for to know the trueth, ²⁶ that they may come to them selues agayne out of the snare of the deuyll, whiche are nowe taken of hym at hys wyll.

⁸ Beware least anye man come and spoyle you thorowe philosophie and disceitful vanitie, thorowe the tradicions of men, and ordinaunces after the world, and not after Christ.

⁷ Aske the catell, & they shall infourme the: the fowles of the ayre, and they shall tell the: ⁸ Speake to the earth, & it shall shewe the: Or to the fysshes of the sea, and they shall certifie the. ⁹ What is he, but he knoweth that the hande of the Lorde made all these? ¹⁰ In whose hande is the soule of euery lyuynge thinge, & the breth of all men. ¹¹ Haue not the eares pleasure in hearinge, & the mouth in tastinge the thinge that it eateth? ¹² Amonge olde personnes there is wysdome, & amonge the aged is vnderstandinge. ¹³ Ye with God is wysdome and strength, it is he that hath councell and forknowlege. ¹⁴ If he breake downe a thinge, who can set it vp agayne? If he shut a thing, who wyll open it? ¹⁵ Beholde, yf he witholde the waters, they drye vp: Yf he let them go, they destroye the earth. ¹⁶ With hym is strength and wysdome: he knoweth bothe the disceyuer & hym that is disceyued. ¹⁷ He caryeth awaye the wyse men, as it were a spoyle, and bringeth the iudges out of their wyttes. ¹⁸ He lowseth the gyrdle of kynges, and gyrdeth theyr loynes with a bonde. ¹⁹ He ledeth awaye the Preastes in to captyuyte, and turneth the myghtye vpsyde downe. ²⁰ He taketh the verite from out of the mouth, & disapoynteth the aged of their wysdome. ²¹ He poureth out confusyon vpon Princes, and comforteth them that haue bene oppressed. ²² Loke what lyeth hyd in darcknesse, he declareth it openly: and the very shadowe of death bringet he to lyght. ²³ He bothe increaseth the people, and destroyeth them: He maketh them to multiplye and driueth them awaye. ²⁴ He chaungeth the herte of the Princes and Kynges of the earth and disapoynteth them: so that they go wandringe out of the waye, ²⁵ & grope in the darcke without light, stackeringe to and fro lyke droncken men.

¹ The spyryte speaketh euydentlye that in the later tymes some shal departe from the fayth, & shall geue heed vnto spyrytes of erroure, and deuelysh doctryne of them ² which speake false thorowe hypocrisye, and haue theyr consciences marked with an hote Iron, ³ forbyddyng to marye, and commaundynge to abstayne from meates which God hath created to be receyued wyth geuyng thankes, of them which beleue and know the trueth. ⁴ For all the creatures of God are good & nothynge to be refused, yf it be receyued with thankes geuynge. ⁵ For it is sanctifyed by the worde of God and prayer.

¹⁴ For the naturall man perceiueth not the thinges of the spyrite of God. For they are but folishnes vnto him. Neither can he perceiue them, because he is spiritually examined.

¹⁹ saiyng: what maye be knowen of God, that same is manifest amonge them. For God dyd shewe it vnto them. ²⁰ So that his inuisible thinges, that is to saye, hys eternall power and Godhead, are vnderstand & sene by the workes from the creation of the worlde. So that they are wythout excuse,

²⁴ Ye se then how that of dedes a man is iustifyed, and not of fayth onely.
