²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, ²¹ and I come again to my father's house in peace, then shall Jehovah be my God. ²² And this stone which I have set for a pillar shall be God's house. And of all that You shall give me, I will surely give the tenth to You.

²⁸ At the end of three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year, and shall lay it up inside your gates. ²⁹ And the Levite, because he has no part nor inheritance with you, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are inside your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied, so that Jehovah your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

⁸ The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, says Jehovah of Hosts.

³⁵ I have shown you all things, that working in this way we ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

⁷ Therefore give to all their dues; to the one due tax, the tax; tribute to whom tribute is due, fear to whom fear is due, and honor to whom honor is due.

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him. ² To him Abraham also gave a tenth of all. He was first by interpretation king of righteousness, and after that also king of Salem, which is king of peace, ³ without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest continually. ⁴ Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. ⁵ And truly they who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priest, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the Law, that is, from their brothers, though they come out of the loins of Abraham. ⁶ But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. ⁷ And without all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. ⁸ And here men who die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. ⁹ And if I may say so, Levi, also, who receives tithes, paid tithes in Abraham. ¹⁰ For he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. ¹¹ Therefore if perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the Law), what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? ¹² For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made in the law also. ¹³ For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no man gave attendance at the altar. ¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. ¹⁵ And it is still far more evident, since there arises another priest after the likeness of Melchizedek, ¹⁶ who is made, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. ¹⁷ For He testifies, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." ¹⁸ For truly there is a putting away of the commandment which went before, because of the weakness and unprofitableness of it. ¹⁹ For the Law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by which we draw near to God. ²⁰ And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath ²¹ (for those priests were made without an oath, but this one was made with an oath by Him who said to Him, "The Lord swore and will not repent, You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek,") ²² by so much was Jesus made a surety of a better covenant. ²³ And they truly were many priests, because they were not allowed to continue because of death; ²⁴ but He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. ²⁵ Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost those who come unto God by Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them. ²⁶ For such a high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners and made higher than the heavens, ²⁷ who does not need, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice daily, first for his own sins and then for the people's sins. For He did this once for all, when He offered up Himself. ²⁸ For the Law appoints men high priests who have infirmity, but the word of the swearing of an oath, after the Law, has consecrated the Son forever, having been perfected.

³⁰ And all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is Jehovah's. It is holy to Jehovah.

²² You shall truly tithe all the increase of your seed that the field brings forth year by year. ²³ And you shall eat before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose to place His name there, the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the first-born of your herds and of your flocks, so that you may learn to fear Jehovah your God always. ²⁴ And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, or if the place is too far from you, which Jehovah your God shall choose to set His name there, when Jehovah your God has blessed you, ²⁵ then you shall turn it into silver and bind up the silver in your hand, and shall go to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose. ²⁶ And you shall pay that silver for whatever your soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul desires. And you shall eat there before Jehovah your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me. But you say, In what have we robbed You? In the tithe and the offering!

¹ Take heed that you do not do your merciful deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in Heaven. ² Therefore when you do your merciful deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. ³ But when you do merciful deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does, ⁴ so that your merciful deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret Himself shall reward you openly.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and you have left undone the weightier matters of the Law, judgment, mercy, and faith. You ought to have done these and not to leave the other undone.

⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and pass over judgment and the love of God. You ought to have done these, and not to leave the other undone.

³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you, good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, they shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured to you again.

⁴¹ And sitting down opposite the treasury, Jesus watched how the people threw copper coins into the treasury. And many rich ones threw in much. ⁴² And a certain poor widow came, and she threw in two lepta, which is a kodrantes. ⁴³ And He called His disciples and said to them, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has cast in more than all those who have cast into the treasury. ⁴⁴ For all cast in from their abundance. But she, out of her poverty, has cast in all that she had, all her livelihood.

⁹ Honor Jehovah with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase;

⁶ But I say this, He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. ⁷ Each one, as he purposes in his heart, let him give; not of grief, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self-sufficiency, you may abound to every good work;

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me. But you say, In what have we robbed You? In the tithe and the offering! ⁹ You are cursed with a curse; for you are robbing Me, the nation, all of it. ¹⁰ Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. And test Me now with this, says Jehovah of Hosts, to see if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you, and pour out a blessing for you, until there is not enough room.
