⁷ And she said, "Who would announce to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne a son to Abraham in his old age."

¹² Did I conceive all these people? If I have fathered them,* that you could say to me, 'Carry them* in your lap, just as a foster-father carries the suckling on the land that you swore an oath to their ancestors?'*

¹² Why did the knees receive me and the breasts, that I could suck?

⁴ The tongue of the nursling cleaves to its palate in thirst. Children beg for food, _⌊no one lays it out before them_⌋.*

²⁶ And as they led him away, they seized Simon, a certain man of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and* placed the cross on him, to carry it* behind Jesus. ²⁷ And a great crowd of the people were following him, and of women who were mourning and lamenting him. ²⁸ But turning to them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children! ²⁹ For behold, days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that did not give birth, and the breasts that did not nurse!' ³⁰ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us!' ³¹ For if they do these things _⌊when the wood is green_⌋,* what will happen _⌊when it is dry_⌋?"*

¹⁶ And Naomi took the child and she put him on her bosom and became his nurse.

¹⁴ Give them, O Yahweh— what will you give them? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

¹² For indeed, although you* ought to be teachers _⌊by this time_⌋*, you have need of someone to teach you again the beginning elements of the oracles of God, and _⌊you have need of_⌋* milk, not* solid food. ¹³ For everyone who partakes of milk is unacquainted with the message of righteousness, because he is an infant. ¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have trained their faculties for the distinguishing of both good and evil.

⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

²¹ So the man Elkanah went up with all his household _⌊to make the annual sacrifice_⌋* to Yahweh and to pay his vow. ²² But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "Once the boy is weaned, I will bring him, so that he may appear before Yahweh; and he will remain there forever." ²³ So her husband Elkanah said to her, "_⌊Do what seems right to you_⌋;* stay until you wean him. Only may Yahweh fulfill his word." So the woman remained and nursed her son until she weaned him. ²⁴ Then she brought him up with her when she had weaned him, along with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin* of wine. She brought him to the house of Yahweh at Shiloh while the boy was still young.

⁷ _⌊Although we could have insisted on our own importance_⌋** as apostles of Christ, yet we became infants in your midst, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

⁹ Yet you took me from the belly; you made me trust while on my mother's breasts.

²⁵ Because of the God of your father he will help you and by Shaddai* he will bless you with the blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that crouches beneath, blessings of the breasts and the womb.

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her suckling, refrain from having compassion on the child of her womb? Indeed, these may forget, but* I, I will not forget you!

² like newborn infants long for the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,

³ Even the jackal bears the beast and nurses their cubs; but the daughter of my people has become ruthless, like ostriches in the wilderness.

¹⁶ gather the people, consecrate the assembly; assemble the elders, gather the children, even those who are breast-feeding; let the bridegroom come out from his private room, and the bride from her canopy.

²⁷ Now it happened that as he said these things, a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and* said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!"

¹⁰ "Rejoice with Jerusalem and shout in exultation with her, all those who love her! Rejoice with her in joy, all those who mourn over her, ¹¹ so that you may suck and be satisfied from her _⌊consoling breast_⌋,* so that you may drink deeply and refresh yourselves from her _⌊heavy breast_⌋."* ¹² For thus says Yahweh:
"Look! I am about to spread prosperity out to her like a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream, and you shall suck and be carried on the hip; and you shall you shall be played with on the knees. ¹³ As a man whose mother comforts him, so I myself will comfort you, and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
