¹ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; ³ Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving of those who believe and know the truth. ⁴ For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: ⁵ For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. ⁶ If you put the brothers in remembrance of these things, you shall be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto you have attained.

¹¹ Not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

⁹ Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, ¹⁰ Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

¹ Him that is weak in the faith receive you, but not to doubtful disputations. ² For one believes that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eats herbs. ³ Let not him that eats despise him that eats not; and let not him which eats not judge him that eats: for God has received him. ⁴ Who are you that judges another man's servant? to his own master he stands or falls. Yes, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand. ⁵ One man esteems one day above another: another esteems every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. ⁶ He that regards the day, regards it unto the Lord; and he that regards not the day, to the Lord he does not regard it. He that eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that eats not, to the Lord he eats not, and gives God thanks. ⁷ For none of us lives to himself, and no man dies to himself. ⁸ For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. ¹⁰ But why do you judge your brother? or why do you set at nought your brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. ¹³ Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. ¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. ¹⁵ But if your brother be grieved with your food, now you do not walk charitably. Do not destroy him with your food, for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not then your good be evil spoken of: ¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. ¹⁸ For he that in these things serves Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. ¹⁹ Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things with which one may edify another. ²⁰ For food destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eats with offense. ²¹ It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak. ²² Have you faith? have it to yourself before God. Happy is he that condemns not himself in that thing which he allows. ²³ And he that doubts is damned if he eat, because he eats not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

⁴ But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵ You are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁷ Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.

⁵ But watch you in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry.

¹³ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: ¹⁵ But as he which has called you is holy, so be holy in all manner of conduct; ¹⁶ Because it is written, Be you holy; for I am holy.

⁵ For this cause left I you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed you: ⁶ If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. ⁷ For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; ⁸ But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; ⁹ Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the opponents.

⁴ Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. ⁵ And you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. ⁶ Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him. ⁷ Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous. ⁸ He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. ¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts of it.

¹⁹ What? do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? ²⁰ For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; ¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. ²⁵ If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

¹ Since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin; ² That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³ For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴ Wherein they think it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: ⁵ Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. ⁶ For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

¹ But speak you the things which become sound doctrine: ² That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience. ³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; ⁴ That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. ⁶ Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. ⁷ In all things showing yourself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, ⁸ Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:
