³ And there was an appearance to them of divided tongues, as of fire, and it rested on every one of them.

¹¹ For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus the Messiah. ¹² But if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, timbers, hay, stubble; ¹³ every man's work shall be made manifest: for that day shall declare it, for it shall be laid open by fire; and the fire shall prove every man's work of what sort it is. ¹⁴ If any man's work which he hath built abide [the trial], he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If any man's work be burnt up, he shall suffer loss: but himself shall be saved; yet so as through the fire.

⁴⁹ I am come to cast fire on the earth, and what is my wish? that it may be now kindled.

¹⁶ John addressed himself to them all, saying, I indeed baptise you with water; but one mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie: he shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost and with fire;
