⁴ But he answered, "Did you never read that the Creator at the beginning made them male and female, ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two of them shall become one'? So they are no longer two but one. ⁶ Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not try to separate."

¹⁸ Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced from her husband commits adultery.

² For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if he dies, the marriage law no longer applies to her.

¹⁸ Fly from immorality! Any other sin a man commits is something outside his body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

²⁸ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman with desire has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

³¹ "They were told, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' ³² But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife on any ground, except unfaithfulness, makes her commit adultery, and anyone who marries her after she is divorced commits adultery.

⁴ Marriage should be respected by everyone, and the marriage relation kept sacred, for vicious and immoral people God will punish.
