John 13:1-38

1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end 2 And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], to betray him 3 [Jesus], knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God 4 riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself 5 Then he poureth water into the bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded 6 So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all 11 For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean 12 So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you 13 Ye call me, Master, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am 14 If I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet 15 For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him 17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them 18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me 19 From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he] 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me 21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me 22 The disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake 23 There was at the table reclining in Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved 24 Simon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell [us] who it is of whom he speaketh 25 He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it 26 Jesus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop, and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to Judas, [the son] of Simon Iscariot 27 And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, That thou doest, do quickly 28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him 29 For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor 30 He then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night 31 When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him 32 and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him 33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you 34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another 36 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow afterwards 37 Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee 38 Jesus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also doth not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper 4 The wicked are not so; but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away 5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the wicked shall perish

Psalms 23:1-6

James 1:1-27

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting 2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations 3 Knowing that the proof of your faith worketh patience 4 And let patience have [its] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing 5 But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord 8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways 9 But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate 10 and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away 11 For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass; and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which [the Lord] promised to them that love him 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man 14 but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed 15 Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death 16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren 17 Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures 19 Ye know [this], my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath 20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God 21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves 23 For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror 24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was 25 But he that looketh into the perfect law, the [law] of liberty, and [so] continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth, but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing 26 If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain 27 Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil 12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world–rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places] 13 Wherefore take up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand 14 Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace 16 withal taking up the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil [one] 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God 18 with all prayer and supplication praying at all seasons in the Spirit, and watching thereunto in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
