Jeremiah 10:1-5

1 ¶ Hear ye the word which the LORD has spoken over you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus hath the LORD said, Do not learn the way of the Gentiles, and do not fear the signs of heaven, even though the Gentiles fear them. 3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity: for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails, that it not move. 5 They compare them to the palm tree, and they do not speak: they must be carried, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither do they have power to do good.

Matthew 15:3-20

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse. 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God, 6 and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men. 10 ¶ And calling the multitude unto him, he said unto them, Hear and understand: 11 not that which goes into the mouth defiles the man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles the man. 12 Then his disciples came and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this word? 13 But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. 14 Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit. 15 Then Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17 Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.

Matthew 15:2-6

2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.

2 Thessalonians 3:6

Mark 7:3-9

3 (For the Pharisees and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 And when they come from the market, unless they wash, they eat not. And there are many other things which they took upon themselves to hold such as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels and of tables.) 5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders but eat bread with unwashed hands? 6 He answered and said unto them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7 Howbeit in vain do they honor me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men as the washing of pots and cups, and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he also said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

2 Timothy 4:2-4

2 Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, they shall heap up unto themselves teachers who shall speak to them according to their own lusts, 4 and thus they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall return unto fables.
