¹ ¶ When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee; ² and put a knife to thy throat if thou art a man given to appetite. ³ Do not be desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.

³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope; ⁵ and the hope shall not be ashamed, because the love of God is poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us. ⁶ ¶ For the Christ, when we were yet weak, in his time died for the ungodly.

²⁵ And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we, an incorruptible one.

¹⁶ This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

¹⁶ ¶ Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy that one; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

⁹ ¶ Know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals ¹⁰ nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you, but now ye are washed, but now ye are sanctified, but now ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.

¹ ¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world. ² In this know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ, is come in flesh is of God: ³ And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ, is come in flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, of which ye have heard that it should come, and that now it is already in the world. ⁴ ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world; therefore, they speak of the world, and the world hears them. ⁶ We are of God; he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. ⁷ ¶ Beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. Anyone that loves is born of God and knows God. ⁸ He that does not love does not know God, for God is charity. ⁹ In this was the charity of God demonstrated in us, in that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his charity is completed in us. ¹³ In this we know that we abide in him, and he in us, in that he has given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ ¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. ¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have known and believed the charity that God has in us. God is charity, and he that abides in charity abides in God, and God in him. ¹⁷ ¶ In this the charity with us is made perfect, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, that as he is, so are we in this world. ¹⁸ In charity there is no fear; but charity that is perfect casts out fear; because fear has torment; from which he that fears is not complete in charity. ¹⁹ We love him, because he first loved us. ²⁰ If anyone says, I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he that does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? ²¹ And we have this commandment from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.

¹ ¶ Therefore, I beseech you brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies in living sacrifice, holy, well pleasing unto God, which is your rational worship. ² And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

¹⁶ ¶ Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is this: Charity, joy, peace, tolerance, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ For those that are of the Christ have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God;

¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

²⁷ but I keep my body under, and bring it into subjection, lest preaching to others, I myself should become reprobate.

²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
