Luke 24:13-35

13 ¶ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was about sixty furlongs from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near and went together with them. 16 But their eyes were held fast that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another as ye walk and are sad? 18 And one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 Then he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the princes of the priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death and crucified him. 21 But we were hoping that it was he who should redeem Israel, and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done. 22 Although also certain women of our company made us astonished, who before daybreak were at the sepulchre; 23 and when they did not find his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said; but they did not see him. 25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken; 26 ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter (like this) into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded this unto them in all the scriptures concerning himself. 28 And they drew near unto the village where they went, and he made as though he would have gone further. 29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30 And it came to pass as he sat at the table with them, he took bread and blessed it and broke and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us in the way and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour and returned to Jerusalem and found the eleven gathered together and those that were with them, 34 saying, The Lord is risen indeed and has appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

John 15:1-6

1 ¶ I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he shall take away; and every one that bears fruit, he shall purge that they may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abides in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing. 6 He who does not abide in me shall be cast forth as an unsound branch and shall wither, and they are gathered and cast into the fire and are burned.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

9 Two are better than one because they have a better reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falls, for he has not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two sleep together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevails against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Genesis 2:18

18 ¶ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.
