¹⁴ ¶ Whosoever boasts in a gift of falsehood is like clouds and wind without rain.

¹² ¶ For we dare not mix ourselves in with or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves, but they do not understand that they are measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves among themselves. ¹³ But we will not glory of things beyond our measure, but according to the measure of the rule, of the measure which God has distributed to us, to reach even unto you. ¹⁴ For we do not overextend ourselves by reaching unto you; for we are also come unto you with the gospel of the Christ, ¹⁵ Not glorying of things beyond our measure in the labours of others; but having hope of the increase of your faith, that we shall be abundantly enlarged among you according to our rule, ¹⁶ to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, without entering into the measure {Gr. rule} of another to glory in that which has already been made ready. ¹⁷ But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord. ¹⁸ For it is not he that commends himself that is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, ⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

⁵ In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles!

¹³ Come now, ye that say, Today and tomorrow we will go into such a city and continue there a year and buy and sell and get gain; ¹⁴ and ye do not know what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? Certainly it is a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. ¹⁵ Ye ought to say instead, If the Lord wills, and if we live, we shall do this or that. ¹⁶ But now ye boast in your arrogance; all such glory is evil.

⁴ How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?

⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God,

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

³⁰ If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern my weakness.

¹ ¶ Boast not thyself of tomorrow for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

¹ ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ² For there shall be men who are lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, evil speakers, disobedient to their parents, unthankful, impure, ³ without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, without temperance, without meekness, without goodness, ⁴ traitors, rash, puffed up, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, ⁵ having the appearance of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

² ¶ Let another man praise thee and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

²³ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

¹⁶ But now ye boast in your arrogance; all such glory is evil.
