¹ And God blessed Noe and his sons. And he said to them: Increase, and multiply, and fill the earth. ² And let the fear and dread of you be upon all the beasts of the earth, and upon all the fowls of the air, and all that move upon the earth: all the fishes of the sea are delivered into your hand. ³ And every thing that moveth, and liveth shall be meat for you: even as the green herbs have I delivered them all to you: ⁴ Saving that flesh with blood you shall not eat. ⁵ For I will require the blood of your lives at the hand of every beast, and at the hand of man, at the hand of every man, and of his brother, will I require the life of man. ⁶ Whosoever shall shed man's blood, his blood shall be shed: for man was made to the image of God. ⁷ But increase you and multiply, and go upon the earth and fill it. ⁸ Thus also said God to Noe, and to his sons with him: ⁹ Behold I will establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you: ¹⁰ And with every living soul that is with you, as well in all birds, as in cattle and beasts of the earth, that are come forth out of the ark, and in all the beasts of the earth. ¹¹ I will establish my covenant with you, and all flesh shall be no more destroyed with the waters of a flood, neither shall there be from henceforth a flood to waste the earth. ¹² And God said: This is the sign of the covenant which I give between me and you, and to every living soul that is with you, for perpetual generations. ¹³ I will set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be the sign of a covenant between me and between the earth. ¹⁴ And when I shall cover the sky with clouds, my bow shall appear in the clouds: ¹⁵ And I will remember my covenant with you, and with every living soul that beareth flesh: and there shall no more be waters of a flood to destroy all flesh. ¹⁶ And the bow shall be in the clouds, and I shall see it, and shall remember the everlasting covenant, that was made between God and every living soul of all flesh which is upon the earth. ¹⁷ And God said to Noe: This shall be the sign of the covenant, which I have established, between me and all flesh upon the earth. ¹⁸ And the sons of Noe, who came out of the ark, were Sem, Cham, and Japheth: and Cham is the father of Chanaan. ¹⁹ These three are the sons of Noe: and from these was all mankind spread over the whole earth. ²⁰ And Noe a husbandman began to till the ground, and planted a vineyard. ²¹ And drinking of the wine was made drunk, and was uncovered in his tent. ²² Which when Cham the father of Chanaan had seen, to wit, that his father's nakedness was uncovered, he told it to his two brethren without. ²³ But Sem and Japheth put a cloak upon their shoulders, and going backward, covered the nakedness of their father: and their faces were turned away, and they saw not their father's nakedness. ²⁴ And Noe awaking from the wine, when he had learned what his younger son had done to him, ²⁵ He said: Cursed be Chanaan, a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. ²⁶ And he said: Blessed be the Lord God of Sem, be Chanaan his servant. ²⁷ May God enlarge Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Sem, and Chanaan be his servant. ²⁸ And Noe lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. ²⁹ And all his days were in the whole nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

⁹ And thou shalt know that the Lord thy God, he is a strong and faithful God, keeping his covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments, unto a thousand generations:

⁶ And said: My God I am confounded and ashamed to lift up my face to thee: for our iniquities are multiplied over our heads, and our sins are grown up even unto heaven, ⁷ From the days of our fathers: and we ourselves also have sinned grievously unto this day, and for our iniquities we and our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the lands, and to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is at this day. ⁸ And now as a little, and for a moment has our prayer been made before the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant, and give us a pin in his holy place, and that our God would enlighten our eyes, and would give us a little life in our bondage. ⁹ For we are bondmen, and in our bondage our God hath not forsaken us, but hath extended mercy upon us before the king of the Persians, to give us life, and to set up the house of our God, and to rebuild the desolations thereof, and to give us a fence in Juda and Jerusalem. ¹⁰ And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, ¹¹ Which thou hast commanded by the hand of thy servants the prophets, saying: The land which you go to possess, is an unclean land, according to the uncleanness of the people, and of other lands, with their abominations, who have filled it from mouth to mouth with their filth. ¹² Now therefore give not your daughters to their sons, and take not their daughters for your sons, and seek not their peace, nor their prosperity for ever: that you may be strengthened, and may eat the good things of the land, and may have your children your heirs for ever. ¹³ And after all that is come upon us, for our most wicked deeds, and our great sin, seeing that thou our God hast saved us from our iniquity, and hast given us a deliverance as at this day, ¹⁴ That we should not turn away, nor break thy commandments, nor join in marriage with the people of these abominations. Art thou angry with us unto utter destruction, not to leave us a remnant to be saved? ¹⁵ O Lord God of Israel, thou art just: for we remain yet to be saved as at this day. Behold we are before thee in our sin, for there can be no standing before thee in this matter.

⁸ In a moment of indignation have I hid my face a little while from thee, but with everlasting kindness have I had mercy on thee, said the Lord thy Redeemer. ⁹ This thing is to me as in the days of Noe, to whom I swore, that I would no more bring in the waters of Noe upon the earth: so have I sworn not to be angry with thee, and not to rebuke thee. ¹⁰ For the mountains shall be moved, and the hills shall tremble; but my mercy shall not depart from thee, and the covenant of my peace shall not be moved: said the Lord that hath mercy on thee.

¹⁸ For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that shall be revealed in us.

¹³ I will set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be the sign of a covenant between me and between the earth.

³ And he that sat was to the sight like the jasper and the sardine stone. And there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

¹⁶ And the bow shall be in the clouds, and I shall see it, and shall remember the everlasting covenant, that was made between God and every living soul of all flesh which is upon the earth.

²⁸ As the appearance of the rainbow when it is in a cloud on a rainy day: this was the appearance of the brightness round about.

¹ And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head: and his face, as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.
