²⁹ Let no evil speech proceed from your mouth: but that which is good, to the edification of faith: that it may administer grace to the hearers.

⁴ Or obscenity or foolish talking or scurrility, which is to no purpose: but rather giving of thanks.

⁶ A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: the learning of the wise is easy. ⁷ Go against a foolish man, and he knoweth not the lips of prudence. ⁸ The wisdom of a discreet man is to understand his way: and the imprudence of fools erreth. ⁹ A fool will laugh at sin, but among the just grace shall abide.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.

⁵ But if any of you want wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth to all men abundantly and upbraideth not. And it shall be given him.

⁴ Upon whom have you jested? upon whom have you opened your mouth wide, and put out your tongue? are not you wicked children, a false seed,

³ Knowing this first: That in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts, ⁴ Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? For since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. ⁵ For this they are wilfully ignorant of: That the heavens were before, and the earth out of water and through water, consisting by the word of God: ⁶ Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. ⁷ But the heavens and the earth which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of the ungodly men.

¹² A corrupt man loveth not one that reproveth him: nor will he go to the wise.

¹ Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence:

⁵ He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his maker: and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.
