²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If the Lord God will be with me, and guard me throughout on this journey, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on, ²¹ and bring me back in safety to the house of my father, then shall the Lord be my God. ²² And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be to me a house of God; and of everything You shall give me, I will tithe a tenth to You.

³⁰ Every tithe of the land, both of the seed of the land, and of the fruit of trees, is the Lord's, holy to the Lord.

⁷ And if there shall be in the midst of you a poor man from among your brothers, in one of your cities in the land, which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, neither shall you by any means close up your hand from your brother who is in need. ⁸ You shall surely open your hands to him, and shall lend to him as much as he wants according to his need. ⁹ Take heed to yourself that there be not a secret thing in your heart — an iniquity, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is approaching. And your eye shall be evil to your brother that is in need, and you shall not give to him, and he shall cry against you to the Lord, and there shall be great sin in you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give to him, and you shall lend to him as much as he wants, according as he is in need. And you shall not grudge in your heart as you give to him, because on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your works, and in all things on which you shall lay your hand. ¹¹ For the poor shall not fail off your land, therefore I charge you to do this thing, saying, You shall surely open your hands to your poor brother, and to him that is distressed upon your land.

²⁸ After three years you shall bring out all the tithes of your fruits, in that year you shall lay it up in your cities. ²⁹ And the Levite shall come, because he has no part or lot with you, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow which is in your cities, and they shall eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works which you shall do.

²² A good man shall inherit children's children, and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just.

⁹ Honor the Lord with your just labors, and give Him the firstfruits of your righteousness, ¹⁰ that your storehouses may be completely filled with grain, and that your presses may burst forth with wine.

²¹ Jesus said to him, "If you desire to be perfect, go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

⁴² But woe to you Pharisees! Because you pay a tithe of mint and rue and every vegetable, and you pass over justice and the love of God. These things you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

¹³ Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat from the temple, and those who serve at the altar have a share in the altar? ¹⁴ Thus also the Lord commanded those who proclaim the gospel to live from the gospel.

⁸ But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

²² You shall tithe a tenth of all the produce of your seed, the fruit of your field, year by year. ²³ And you shall eat it in the place which the Lord your God shall choose to have His name called there; you shall bring the tithe of your grain and of your wine, and of your oil, the firstborn of your herd and of your flock, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God at all times. ²⁴ And if the journey is too far for you, and you are not able to bring them, because the place is far from you which the Lord your God shall choose to have His name called there, because the Lord your God will bless you; ²⁵ then you shall sell them for money, and you shall take the money in your hands, and you shall go to the place which the Lord your God shall choose. ²⁶ And you shall give the money for whatsoever your soul shall desire, for oxen or for sheep, or for wine, or you shall lay it out on strong drink, or on whatsoever your soul may desire, and you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice and your house, ²⁷ and the Levite that is in your cities, because he has not a portion or inheritance with you. ²⁸ After three years you shall bring out all the tithes of your fruits, in that year you shall lay it up in your cities. ²⁹ And the Levite shall come, because he has no part or lot with you, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow which is in your cities, and they shall eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works which you shall do.

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other, or else he will be devoted to the one, and he will despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

⁴² Give to the one asking you, and to the one desiring to borrow from you, do not turn away.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the more important things of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These things you should have done, and not have neglected the others.

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother having need, and shuts off his compassion towards him, how does the love of God abide in him?

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, ² to whom also Abraham divided a tenth from all, first being interpreted "king of righteousness," and then also king of Salem, which is "king of peace," ³ without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but having been made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. ⁴ But observe how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth from the spoils. ⁵ And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to collect tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brothers, though they have come from the loins of Abraham; ⁶ but the one not tracing his descent from them has received tithes from Abraham, and he has blessed the one having the promises. ⁷ Now without any contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better. ⁸ And here on one hand mortal men receive tithes, but there on the other it is witnessed that he lives. ⁹ Even Levi, the one receiving tithes, has paid tithes through Abraham, so to speak, ¹⁰ for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. ¹¹ Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), why is there yet a need for another priest to rise, according to the order of Melchizedek, and not to be called according to the order of Aaron? ¹² For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there occurs a change of law also. ¹³ For He concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. ¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord has risen out of Judah, regarding which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. ¹⁵ And it is yet even more clearer, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest ¹⁶ who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. ¹⁷ For He testifies: "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." ¹⁸ For on the one hand an annulment comes about of the preceding commandment on account of its weakness and uselessness. ¹⁹ For the law made nothing perfect; but there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. ²⁰ And inasmuch as it was not without oath taking, ²¹ for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him that said to Him: "The LORD has sworn and will not relent, 'You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek' ", ²² by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. ²³ Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. ²⁴ But He, because He remains forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. ²⁵ Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those coming to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. ²⁶ For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, innocent, undefiled, having been separated from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; ²⁷ who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices beforehand, in behalf of His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. ²⁸ For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son who has been perfected forever.

¹ And looking up, He saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, ² and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. ³ And He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all. ⁴ For all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood which she had."

³⁵ By all things I have shown you, that thus laboring it is necessary to help those being weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

⁷ Let each one give just as he decides in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

⁹ Honor the Lord with your just labors, and give Him the firstfruits of your righteousness,

³⁸ Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure, pressed down and shaken and running over they shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it shall be measured back to you."

⁸ Will a man insult God? For you insult Me. But you say, How have we insulted You? In that the tithes and firstfruits are with you still. ⁹ And you do surely look off from Me, and you insult Me. ¹⁰ The year is completed, and you have brought all the produce into the storehouses; but there shall be the plunder thereof in its house: return now on this behalf, says the Lord Almighty, see if I will not open to you the torrents of heaven, and pour out My blessing upon you, until you are satisfied.
