⁴² But Jesus called them to him, and said to them: You know that those who think they rule the Gentiles, act as lords over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, shall be your minister; ⁴⁴ and whoever among you desires to be first, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For the Son of man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

³⁸ And it came to pass, as they continued their journey, that he entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the feet of Jesus, and heard his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha made herself busy with much serving; and she came to him, and said: Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. ²³ For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: That the Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was delivered up, took bread; ²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said: Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me. ²⁵ In like manner also, the cup, after he had supped, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood: do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. ²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death till he come. ²⁷ Wherefore he that eats this bread, or drinks this cup of the Lord, in an improper manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of this bread, and drink of this cup: ²⁹ for he that eats and drinks in an improper manner, eats and drinks condemnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. ³⁰ For this reason, many among you are weak and sick, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged; ³² but being judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. ³³ Wherefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one an other:- ³⁴ and if any one is hungry, let him eat at home, that you come not together for condemnation. But other things I will set in order when I come.
