¹⁵ He said to them: But who say you that I am? ¹⁶ Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said to him: Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I say to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.

⁶ But that you may know that the Son of man on earth has authority to forgive sins (then he said to the palsied man): Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house. ⁷ And he arose, and departed to his house. ⁸ And when the multitude saw it, they were astonished, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

³⁸ And Peter said to them: Repent, and be immersed, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, in order to the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is to you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.

²⁰ But will you know, vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? ²² Do you see that faith was the moving principle in his works, and by works his faith was made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled, which says, Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God. ²⁴ Do you see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only? ²⁵ Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

¹² So, then, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; ¹³ for it is God, who, of his good pleasure, works in you both the will and the power to perform.

¹⁰ But to the married I give commandment, not I, but the Lord: Let not the wife leave her husband: ¹¹ but if she leave him, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and, let not the husband put away his wife.

⁷ for I could wish that all men were even as I am myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this way, another in that. ⁸ But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It would be good for them, if they remain as I myself.

³² But I would have you to be without anxiety. The unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord: ³³ but he that is married, is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife. ³⁴ There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy in body and in spirit; but she that is married, is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

¹⁵ Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.

⁶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother that walks disorderly, and not according to the tradition which he received from us.

¹ Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. ² Now, I praise you, brethren, because you remember me in all things, and keep the traditions as I delivered them to you.
