For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who he was that would betray him. ⁶⁵ And he said: For this reason I said to you: No one can come to me unless it be given him from my Father. ⁶⁶ After this, many of his disciples went back, and walked with him no more. ⁶⁷ Then Jesus said to the twelve: Will you also go away? ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life; ⁶⁹ and we believe, and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of God. ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them: Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon; for he was about to deliver him up, being one of the twelve.

²⁷ And, as it is appointed to men once to die, and after this the judgment,

⁹ these shall suffer punishment in that day, even eternal destruction, far from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power,

²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal "life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁴ Verily, verily I say to you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has eternal life, and comes not into condemnation, but has passed from death into life.
