⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and will deceive many.

¹ Beloved, believe not every spirit; but prove the spirits, whether they are from God: for many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, is from God: ³ and whatever spirit confesses not that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, is not from God: and this is the spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it comes, and is now already in the world.

⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above every one that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, openly showing him self that he is God.

¹⁶ And he causes all, small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, ¹⁷ and that no one should be able to buy or sell, but he that had the mark, the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and the false prophet that was with him, who did signs in his presence, with which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast, and those who worshiped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire, which burns with brim stone.

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last time; and, as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now there are many antichrists; by which we know that it is the last time.

³ Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come, unless the apostasy come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, ⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above every one that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, openly showing him self that he is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that, while I was with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now you know what restrains, in order that he may be revealed in his own proper time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work; only he that now restrains will restrain, till he be taken out of the way: ⁸ and then shall that lawless one be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy by the spirit of his mouth, and will utterly over throw by the brightness of his coming: ⁹ he will destroy him, whose coming is, according to the energy of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, ¹⁰ and with all the delusion of unrighteousness in those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, in order that they may believe a lie, ¹² that all may be condemned who believe not the truth, but have pleasure in unrighteousness.

²² Who is a liar, but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.

⁷ For many deceivers have entered into the world, who con fess not that Jesus Christ came in the flesh: this is the deceiver and the antichrist.

If any kills with the sword, he must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and faithfulness of the saints. ¹¹ And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence; and he causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ And he does great signs, and even causes fire to descend from heaven upon the earth in the sight of men. ¹⁴ And he deceives those who dwell on the earth, by means of the signs which he is allowed to do in the presence of the beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image for the beast which had the wound by the sword, and did live. ¹⁵ And it was granted him to give spirit to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast, to be killed. ¹⁶ And he causes all, small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, ¹⁷ and that no one should be able to buy or sell, but he that had the mark, the name of the beast, or the number of his name. ¹⁸ Here is wisdom. Let him that has understanding, count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.
