⁵ Counsel in the heart of man is [like] deep water;
But a man of understanding will draw it out.

¹ For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: ² a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; ³ a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; ⁴ a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; ⁵ a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; ⁶ a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; ⁷ a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; ⁸ a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. ⁹ What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboreth? ¹⁰ I have seen the travail which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith. ¹¹ He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also he hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end. ¹² I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live. ¹³ And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God. ¹⁴ I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor anything taken from it; and God hath done it, that men should fear before him. ¹⁵ That which is hath been long ago; and that which is to be hath long ago been: and God seeketh again that which is passed away.
¹⁶ And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there. ¹⁷ I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work. ¹⁸ I said in my heart, [It is] because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are [but as] beasts. ¹⁹ For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity. ²⁰ All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. ²¹ Who knoweth the spirit of man, whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast, whether it goeth downward to the earth? ²² Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him [back] to see what shall be after him?

³³ But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

² Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations; ³ knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience. ⁴ And let patience have [its] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

⁵ Trust in Jehovah with all thy heart,
And lean not upon thine own understanding:

¹³ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,
And the man that getteth understanding. ¹⁴ For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver,
And the profit thereof than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies:
And none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand;
In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her:
And happy is every one that retaineth her.

¹ Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge;
But he that hateth reproof is brutish. ² A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah;
But a man of wicked devices will he condemn. ³ A man shall not be established by wickedness;
But the root of the righteous shall not be moved. ⁴ A worthy woman is the crown of her husband;
But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. ⁵ The thoughts of the righteous are just;
[But] the counsels of the wicked are deceit. ⁶ The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood;
But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. ⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are not;
But the house of the righteous shall stand. ⁸ A man shall be commended according to his wisdom;
But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. ⁹ Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant,
Than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread. ¹⁰ A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast;
But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. ¹¹ He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread;
But he that followeth after vain [persons] is void of understanding. ¹² The wicked desireth the net of evil men;
But the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit]. ¹³ In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man;
But the righteous shall come out of trouble. ¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth;
And the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him. ¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes;
But he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel. ¹⁶ A fool's vexation is presently known;
But a prudent man concealeth shame. ¹⁷ He that uttereth truth showeth forth righteousness;
But a false witness, deceit. ¹⁸ There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword;
But the tongue of the wise is health. ¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be established for ever;
But a lying tongue is but for a moment. ²⁰ Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil;
But to the counsellors of peace is joy. ²¹ There shall no mischief happen to the righteous;
But the wicked shall be filled with evil. ²² Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah;
But they that deal truly are his delight. ²³ A prudent man concealeth knowledge;
But the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. ²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule;
But the slothful shall be put under taskwork. ²⁵ Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop;
But a good word maketh it glad. ²⁶ The righteous is a guide to his neighbor;
But the way of the wicked causeth them to err. ²⁷ The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting;
But the precious substance of men [is to] the diligent. ²⁸ In the way of righteousness is life;
And in the pathway thereof there is no death.

⁷ Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom;
Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

¹ But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. ² For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; ⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away. ⁶ For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by divers lusts, ⁷ ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth; men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be. ¹⁰ But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience, ¹¹ persecutions, sufferings; what things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: and out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. ¹³ But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. ¹⁴ But abide thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; ¹⁵ and that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ Every scripture inspired of God [is] also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness: ¹⁷ that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.

²⁷ He that spareth his words hath knowledge;
And he that is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.

² So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom,
And apply thy heart to understanding; ³ Yea, if thou cry after discernment,
And lift up thy voice for understanding; ⁴ If thou seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hid treasures: ⁵ Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah,
And find the knowledge of God.

¹³⁰ The opening of thy words giveth light;
It giveth understanding unto the simple.

²⁹ He that is slow to anger is of great understanding;
But he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

² A fool hath no delight in understanding,
But only that his heart may reveal itself.
