³ Judge the poor and fatherless:
Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. ⁴ Rescue the poor and needy:
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

¹ [A Psalm] of David.

Blessed be Jehovah my rock,
Who teacheth my hands to war,
[And] my fingers to fight:

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursueth;
But the righteous are bold as a lion. ² For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof;
But by men of understanding [and] knowledge the state [thereof] shall be prolonged. ³ A needy man that oppresseth the poor
Is [like] a sweeping rain which leaveth no food. ⁴ They that forsake the law praise the wicked;
But such as keep the law contend with them. ⁵ Evil men understand not justice;
But they that seek Jehovah understand all things. ⁶ Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity,
Than he that is perverse in [his] ways, though he be rich. ⁷ Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son;
But he that is a companion of gluttons shameth his father. ⁸ He that augmenteth his substance by interest and increase,
Gathereth it for him that hath pity on the poor. ⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,
Even his prayer is an abomination. ¹⁰ Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way,
He shall fall himself into his own pit;
But the perfect shall inherit good. ¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own conceit;
But the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. ¹² When the righteous triumph, there is great glory;
But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. ¹³ He that covereth his transgressions shall not prosper:
But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall obtain mercy. ¹⁴ Happy is the man that feareth alway;
But he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. ¹⁵ [As] a roaring lion, and a ranging bear,
[So is] a wicked ruler over a poor people. ¹⁶ The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor;
[But] he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days. ¹⁷ A man that is laden with the blood of any person
Shall flee unto the pit; let no man stay him. ¹⁸ Whoso walketh uprightly shall be delivered;
But he that is perverse in [his] ways shall fall at once. ¹⁹ He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread;
But he that followeth after vain [persons] shall have poverty enough. ²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings;
But he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be unpunished. ²¹ To have respect of persons is not good;
Neither that a man should transgress for a piece of bread. ²² He that hath an evil eye hasteth after riches,
And knoweth not that want shall come upon him. ²³ He that rebuketh a man shall afterward find more favor
Than he that flattereth with the tongue. ²⁴ Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression,
The same is the companion of a destroyer. ²⁵ He that is of a greedy spirit stirreth up strife;
But he that putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be made fat. ²⁶ He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool;
But whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. ²⁷ He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack;
But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. ²⁸ When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;
But when they perish, the righteous increase.

⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me.

¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.

⁹ Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

¹³ Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹ Put them in mind to be in subjection to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready unto every good work, ² to speak evil of no man, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all meekness toward all men.

¹ Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the [powers] that be are ordained of God. ² Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment. ³ For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same: ⁴ for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil. ⁵ Wherefore [ye] must needs be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake. ⁶ For this cause ye pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God's service, attending continually upon this very thing. ⁷ Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute [is due]; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
⁸ Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. ⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ¹⁰ Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfilment of the law.
¹¹ And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep: for now is salvation nearer to us than when we [first] believed. ¹² The night is far spent, and the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

⁴ for he is a minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him that doeth evil.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.
