¹⁴ When you are come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell therein, and shall say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; ¹⁵ You shall in any wise set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: one from among your brothers shall you set king over you: you may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

¹¹ And that you study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; ¹² That you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that you may have lack of nothing.

¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

²⁰ For our conversation is in heaven; from where also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:

⁷ If there be among you a poor man of one of your brothers within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother: ⁸ But you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wants. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land.

¹² Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

²⁴ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What think you? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt you me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute money. And they brought to him a penny. ²⁰ And he said to them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say to him, Caesar's. Then said he to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's.

⁹ But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

¹ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; ² For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

¹ Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. ² Whoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. ³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: ⁴ For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath on him that does evil. ⁵ Why you must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually on this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
