⁷ And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them. ⁸ When you are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honorable man than you be bidden of him; ⁹ And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place; and you begin with shame to take the lowest room. ¹⁰ But when you are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with you. ¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. ¹² Then said he also to him that bade him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brothers, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbors; lest they also bid you again, and a recompense be made you. ¹³ But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: ¹⁴ And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

²³ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

¹⁰ But why do you judge your brother? or why do you set at nothing your brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, said the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

² As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:

¹⁰ That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death;

²² But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

¹⁷ Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

¹⁵ Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

¹¹ A fool utters all his mind: but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.

¹⁰⁵ Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.

²⁹ Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

⁴ Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

²¹ Why lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

² To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness to all men.

⁸ For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

² With all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love;

⁸ But now you also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

¹² And whoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

¹⁹ Why, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: ²⁰ For the wrath of man works not the righteousness of God.
