Genesis 34:1-31

1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. 2 And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. And he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her. 3 And his soul clung to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spoke kindly to the damsel. 4 And Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife. 5 Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. And his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob held his peace until they came. 6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to converse with him. 7 And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. And the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter, which thing ought not to be done. 8 And Hamor conversed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter. I pray you, give her to him to wife. 9 And make ye marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters to you. 10 And ye shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you. Dwell and trade ye in it, and get possessions for you in it. 11 And Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, Let me find favor in your eyes, and what ye shall say to me I will give. 12 Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say to me, but give me the damsel to wife. 13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with guile, and spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister, 14 and said to them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for that is a reproach to us. 15 Only on this condition will we consent to you: If ye will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised. 16 Then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us. And we will dwell with you, and we will become one people. 17 But if ye will not hearken to us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone. 18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son. 19 And the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter. And he was honored above all the house of his father. 20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and conversed with the men of their city, saying, 21 These men are peaceable with us, therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade in it, for, behold, the land is large enough for them. Let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters. 22 Only on this condition will the men consent to us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised. 23 Shall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us. 24 And all who went out of the gate of his city hearkened to Hamor and to Shechem his son, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city. 25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and killed all the males. 26 And they killed Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth. 27 The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister. 28 They took their flocks and their herds and their donkeys, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, 29 and all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, they took captive and made a prey, even all that was in the house. 30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. And, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me, and I shall be destroyed, I and my house. 31 And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?

Exodus 22:16-17

16 And if a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife. 17 If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Numbers 31:1-54

1 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Avenge the sons of Israel of the Midianites. Afterward thou shall be gathered to thy people. 3 And Moses spoke to the people, saying, Arm ye men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute LORD's vengeance on Midian. 4 From every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, ye shall send to the war. 5 So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war. 6 And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand. 7 And they warred against Midian as LORD commanded Moses, and they killed every male. 8 And they killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword. 9 And the sons of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones. And all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took for a prey. 10 And all their cities in the places in which they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire. 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of man and of beast. 12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho. 13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the rulers of the congregation, went forth to meet them outside the camp. 14 And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war. 15 And Moses said to them, Have ye saved all the women alive? 16 Behold, these caused the sons of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against LORD in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of LORD. 17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women-children, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. 19 And encamp ye outside the camp seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, ye and your captives. 20 And as to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood, ye shall purify yourselves. 21 And Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, This is the statute of the law which LORD has commanded Moses: 22 only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead- 23 everything which may go into fire-ye shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean. Nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity. And all that may not go into fire ye shall make to go through the water. 24 And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp. 25 And LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 26 Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the congregation, 27 and divide the prey into two parts: between the men skilled in war who went out to battle, and all the congregation. 28 And levy a tribute to LORD of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the donkeys, and of the flocks. 29 Take it of their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest, for LORD's heave offering. 30 And of the sons of Israel's half, thou shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, even of all the cattle, and give them to the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of LORD. 31 And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as LORD commanded Moses. 32 Now the prey, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep, 33 and seventy-two thousand oxen, 34 and sixty-one thousand donkeys, 35 and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him. 36 And the half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand and five hundred sheep. 37 And LORD's tribute of the sheep was six hundred and seventy-five. 38 And the oxen were thirty-six thousand, of which LORD's tribute was seventy-two. 39 And the donkeys were thirty thousand and five hundred, of which LORD's tribute was sixty-one. 40 And the persons were sixteen thousand, of whom LORD's tribute was thirty-two persons. 41 And Moses gave the tribute, which was LORD's heave offering, to Eleazar the priest, as LORD commanded Moses. 42 And of the sons of Israel's half, which Moses divided off from the men who warred 43 (now the congregation's half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand and five hundred sheep, 44 and thirty-six thousand oxen, 45 and thirty thousand and five hundred donkeys, 46 and sixteen thousand persons), 47 even of the sons of Israel's half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them to the Levites, who kept the charge of the tabernacle of LORD, as LORD commanded Moses. 48 And the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses. 49 And they said to Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war that are under our charge, and there lacks not one man of us. 50 And we have brought LORD's oblation, what every man has gotten, of jewels of gold, ankle-chains, and bracelets, signet-rings, earrings, and armlets, to make atonement for our souls before LORD. 51 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold from them, even all wrought jewels. 52 And all the gold of the heave offering that they offered up to LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. 53 (For the men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.) 54 And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, for a memorial for the sons of Israel before LORD.

Deuteronomy 22:25

25 But if the man finds the damsel who is betrothed in the field, and the man forces her, and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die,

2 Samuel 13:12-14

12 And she answered him, No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing ought to be done in Israel. Do not do thou this folly. 13 And I, where shall I carry my shame? And as for thee, thou will be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from thee. 14 However he would not hearken to her voice, but being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her.

Psalms 82:3

3 Judge the poor man and the orphan. Do justice to the afflicted and destitute man.

Psalms 9:9

9 LORD will also be a high tower for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble.

Ephesians 5:25

25 Husbands, love your own wives even as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it,

Deuteronomy 22:25-27

25 But if the man finds the damsel who is betrothed in the field, and the man forces her, and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die, 26 but to the damsel thou shall do nothing. There is in the damsel no sin worthy of death. For as when a man rises against his neighbor, and kills him, even so is this matter, 27 for he found her in the field, the betrothed damsel cried out, and there was none to save her.

Deuteronomy 21:10-14

10 When thou go forth to battle against thine enemies, and LORD thy God delivers them into thy hands, and thou carry them away captive, 11 and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou have a desire for her, and would take her to thee to wife, 12 then thou shall bring her home to thy house. And she shall shave her head, and pare her nails, 13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. And after that thou shall go in to her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. 14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shall let her go where she will, but thou shall not sell her at all for money. Thou shall not deal with her harshly, because thou have humbled her.

Deuteronomy 22:28

28 If a man finds a damsel who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and lays hold on her, and lies with her, and they be found,

2 Samuel 13:1-39

1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister whose name was Tamar. And Amnon the son of David loved her. 2 And Amnon was so frustrated that he fell sick because of his sister Tamar. For she was a virgin, and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her. 3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother. And Jonadab was a very sly man. 4 And he said to him, Why, O son of the king, are thou emaciated this way from day to day? Will thou not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. 5 And Jonadab said to him, Lie down on thy bed, and feign thyself sick. And when thy father comes to see thee, say to him, Let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and give me bread to eat, and dress the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand. 6 So Amnon lay down, and feigned himself sick. And when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, Let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand. 7 Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon's house, and make food for him. 8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, and he was laid down. And she took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes. 9 And she took the pan, and poured them out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have all men out from me. And they went out every man from him. 10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber that I may eat from thy hand. And Tamar took the cakes that she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. 11 And when she had brought them near to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, Come, lie with me, my sister. 15 Then Amnon hated her with exceedingly great hatred, for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone. 16 And she said to him, Not so, because this great wrong in putting me forth is worse than the other that thou did to me. But he would not hearken to her. 17 Then he called his servant who ministered to him, and said, Put this woman out from me now, and bolt the door after her. 18 And she had a garment of various colors upon her, for with such robes were the king's daughters who were virgins appareled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. 19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of various colors that was on her. And she laid her hand on her head, and went her way, crying aloud as she went. 20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Has Amnon thy brother been with thee? But now hold thy peace, my sister. He is thy brother. Do not take this thing to heart. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. 21 But when king David heard of all these things, he was very angry. 22 And Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad, for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. 23 And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep-shearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king's sons. 24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant has sheep-shearers. Let the king, I pray thee, and his servants go with thy servant. 25 And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to thee. And he pressed him. However he would not go, but blessed him. 26 Then Absalom said, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with thee? 27 But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. 28 And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Notice ye now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant. 29 And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got up upon his mule, and fled. 30 And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that the news came to David, saying, Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left. 31 Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth, and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn. 32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the king's sons, for Amnon only is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. 33 Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead, for only Amnon is dead. 34 But Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill-side behind him. 35 And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons have come; as thy servant said, so it is. 36 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice, and wept. And the king also and all his servants wept very much. 37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. 38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years. 39 And the soul of king David longed to go forth to Absalom, for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

Deuteronomy 22:25-28

25 But if the man finds the damsel who is betrothed in the field, and the man forces her, and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die, 26 but to the damsel thou shall do nothing. There is in the damsel no sin worthy of death. For as when a man rises against his neighbor, and kills him, even so is this matter, 27 for he found her in the field, the betrothed damsel cried out, and there was none to save her. 28 If a man finds a damsel who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and lays hold on her, and lies with her, and they be found,

Deuteronomy 22:23-24

23 If there be a damsel who is a virgin betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city, and lies with her, 24 then ye shall bring them both out to the gate of that city. And ye shall stone them to death with stones, the damsel, because she did not cry out, being in the city, and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor's wife. So thou shall put away the evil from the midst of thee.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29

28 If a man finds a damsel who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and lays hold on her, and lies with her, and they be found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her. He may not put her away all his days.
