1 Samuel 28 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. And Achish said to David, Know thou assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to battle, thou and thy men.

1 H3117 And it came to pass in those days, H6430 that the Philistines H6908 0 gathered H4264 their armies H6908 [H8799] together H6635 for warfare, H3898 [H8736] to fight H3478 with Israel. H397 And Achish H559 [H8799] said H1732 to David, H3045 [H8799] Know H3045 [H8800] thou assuredly, H3318 [H8799] that thou shalt go out H4264 with me to battle, H582 thou and thy men.

2 H1732 And David H559 [H8799] said H397 to Achish, H3651 Surely H3045 [H8799] thou shalt know H5650 what thy servant H6213 [H8799] can do. H397 And Achish H559 [H8799] said H1732 to David, H7760 [H8799] Therefore will I make H8104 [H8802] thee keeper H7218 of my head H3117 for ever.

3 H8050 Now Samuel H4191 [H8804] was dead, H3478 and all Israel H5594 [H8799] had lamented H6912 [H8799] him, and buried H7414 him in Ramah, H5892 even in his own city. H7586 And Saul H5493 [H8689] had put away H178 those that were mediums, H3049 and the wizards, H776 out of the land.

4 H6430 And the Philistines H6908 [H8735] gathered themselves together, H935 [H8799] and came H2583 [H8799] and encamped H7766 in Shunem: H7586 and Saul H6908 0 gathered H3478 all Israel H6908 [H8799] together, H2583 [H8799] and they encamped H1533 in Gilboa.

5 H7586 And when Saul H7200 [H8799] saw H4264 the host H6430 of the Philistines, H3372 [H8799] he was afraid, H3820 and his heart H3966 greatly H2729 [H8799] trembled.

6 H7586 And when Saul H7592 [H8799] enquired H3068 of the LORD, H3068 the LORD H6030 [H8804] answered H2472 him not, neither by dreams, H224 nor by Urim, H5030 nor by prophets.

7 H559 [H8799] Then said H7586 Saul H5650 to his servants, H1245 [H8761] Seek H802 me a woman H1172 that is H178 a medium, H3212 [H8799] that I may go H1875 [H8799] to her, and enquire H5650 of her. And his servants H559 [H8799] said H802 to him, Behold, there is a woman H1172 that hath H178 a medium H5874 at Endor.

8 H7586 And Saul H2664 [H8691] disguised H3847 [H8799] himself, and put on H312 other H899 raiment, H3212 [H8799] and he went, H8147 and two H582 men H935 [H8799] with him, and they came H802 to the woman H3915 by night: H559 [H8799] and he said, H7080 [H8798] I pray thee, divine H178 to me as a medium, H5927 [H8685] and bring up for me, H559 [H8799] whom I shall name to thee.

9 H802 And the woman H559 [H8799] said H3045 [H8804] to him, Behold, thou knowest H7586 what Saul H6213 [H8804] hath done, H3772 [H8689] how he hath cut off H178 those that are mediums, H3049 and the wizards, H776 out of the land: H5367 [H8693] Why then layest thou a snare H5315 for my life, H4191 [H8687] to cause me to die?

10 H7586 And Saul H7650 [H8735] swore H3068 to her by the LORD, H559 [H8800] saying, H3068 As the LORD H2416 liveth, H518 there shall H5771 no punishment H7136 [H8799] happen H1697 to thee for this thing.

11 H559 [H8799] Then said H802 the woman, H5927 [H8686] Whom shall I bring up H559 [H8799] to thee? And he said, H5927 [H8685] Bring me up H8050 Samuel.

12 H802 And when the woman H7200 [H8799] saw H8050 Samuel, H2199 [H8799] she cried H1419 with a loud H6963 voice: H802 and the woman H559 [H8799] spoke H7586 to Saul, H559 [H8800] saying, H7411 [H8765] Why hast thou deceived H7586 me? for thou art Saul.

13 H4428 And the king H559 [H8799] said H3372 [H8799] to her, Be not afraid: H7200 [H8804] for what sawest H802 thou? And the woman H559 [H8799] said H7586 to Saul, H7200 [H8804] I saw H430 gods H5927 [H8802] ascending H776 out of the earth.

14 H559 [H8799] And he said H8389 to her, What is his form? H559 [H8799] And she said, H2205 An old H376 man H5927 [H8802] cometh up; H5844 [H8802] and he is covered H4598 with a mantle. H7586 And Saul H3045 [H8799] perceived H8050 that it was Samuel, H6915 [H8799] and he stooped H639 with his nose H776 to the earth, H7812 [H8691] and bowed himself.

15 H8050 And Samuel H559 [H8799] said H7586 to Saul, H7264 [H8689] Why hast thou disquieted H5927 [H8687] me, to bring me up? H7586 And Saul H559 [H8799] answered, H3966 I am grievously H6887 [H8804] distressed; H6430 for the Philistines H3898 [H8737] make war H430 against me, and God H5493 [H8804] hath departed H6030 [H8804] from me, and answereth H3027 me no more, neither by H5030 prophets, H2472 nor by dreams: H7121 [H8799] therefore I have called H3045 [H8687] thee, that thou mayest make known H6213 [H8799] to me what I shall do.

16 H559 [H8799] Then said H8050 Samuel, H7592 [H8799] Why then dost thou ask H3068 of me, seeing the LORD H5493 [H8804] hath departed H6145 from thee, and hath become thy watchful foe?

17 H3068 And the LORD H6213 [H8799] hath done H1696 [H8765] to him, as he spoke H3027 by me: H3068 for the LORD H7167 [H8799] hath torn H4467 the kingdom H3027 out of thine hand, H5414 [H8799] and given H7453 it to thy neighbour, H1732 even to David:

18 H834 Because H8085 [H8804] thou didst not obey H6963 the voice H3068 of the LORD, H6213 [H8804] nor execute H2740 his burning H639 anger H6002 upon Amalek, H3068 therefore hath the LORD H6213 [H8804] done H1697 this thing H3117 to thee this day.

19 H3068 Moreover the LORD H5414 [H8799] will also give H3478 Israel H3027 with thee into the hand H6430 of the Philistines: H4279 and to morrow H1121 shalt thou and thy sons H3068 be with me: the LORD H5414 [H8799] also shall give H4264 the host H3478 of Israel H3027 into the hand H6430 of the Philistines.

20 H7586 Then Saul H5307 [H8799] fell H4116 [H8762] immediately H4393 all H6967 along H776 on the earth, H3966 and was exceedingly H3372 [H8799] afraid, H1697 because of the words H8050 of Samuel: H3581 and there was no strength H398 [H8804] in him; for he had eaten H3899 no bread H3117 all the day, H3915 nor all the night.

21 H802 And the woman H935 [H8799] came H7586 to Saul, H7200 [H8799] and saw H3966 that he was greatly H926 [H8738] troubled, H559 [H8799] and said H8198 to him, Behold, thy handmaid H8085 [H8804] hath obeyed H6963 thy voice, H7760 [H8799] and I have put H5315 my life H3709 in my palm, H8085 [H8799] and have hearkened H1697 to thy words H1696 [H8765] which thou spoke to me.

22 H8085 [H8798] Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken H6963 thou also to the voice H8198 of thy handmaid, H7760 [H8799] and let me set H6595 a morsel H3899 of bread H6440 at the face of H398 [H8798] thee; and eat, H3581 that thou mayest have strength, H3212 [H8799] when thou goest H1870 on thy way.

23 H3985 [H8762] But he refused, H559 [H8799] and said, H398 [H8799] I will not eat. H5650 But his servants, H802 together with the woman, H6555 [H8799] compelled H8085 [H8799] him; and he hearkened H6963 to their voice. H6965 [H8799] So he arose H776 from the earth, H3427 [H8799] and sat H4296 upon the bed.

24 H802 And the woman H4770 had a fat H5695 calf H1004 in the house; H4116 [H8762] and she hasted, H2076 [H8799] and killed H3947 [H8799] it, and took H7058 flour, H3888 [H8799] and kneaded H644 [H8799] it, and baked H4682 unleavened bread from it:

25 H5066 [H8686] And she brought H6440 it at the face of H7586 Saul, H6440 and at the face of H5650 his servants; H398 [H8799] and they ate. H6965 [H8799] Then they arose, H3212 [H8799] and went away H3915 that night.
