³⁵ Who is this Son of man? Then Jesus said to them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness overtake you, for he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he goeth.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh, but the election hath obtained, and the rest were blinded. ⁸ According as it is written, God hath given them a spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompence to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

¹² The night is far spent; the day is at hand, let us therefore put off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light. ¹³ Let us walk decently, as in the day; not in banqueting and drunken entertainments, not in uncleannesses and wantonness, not in strife and envy. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the desires thereof.

⁵ And the light shineth in darkness, but the darkness perceived it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a testimony, ⁷ to testify of the light, that all thro' it might believe. ⁸ He was not the light, but was sent to testify of the light. ⁹ This was the true light, who lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

³³ Then said Jesus to them, Yet a little time I am with you, and then I go to him that sent me.

¹² Then spake Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is coming, when no man can work. ⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Having said this,

¹⁰ But if any man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.

³⁶ While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may become children of light. These things spake Jesus, and retiring concealed himself from them.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, according to what Isaiah said again. ⁴⁰ He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their hearts, that they might not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted, that I might heal them.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me, may not continue in darkness.

¹⁶ A little while and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

¹⁴ But their understandings were blinded: and until this day the same veil remaineth unremoved on the reading of the old testament, which is taken away in Christ.

⁸ For ye were once darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord:

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. ¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly,

⁵ Ye are all children of the light and children of the day: we are not children of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as the others, but let us awake and keep awake. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us who are of the day keep awake, having put on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.

⁷ Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith) To day, ⁸ if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness,

⁶ If we say we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. ⁷ But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

⁸ Again, I do write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you: for the darkness is past away, and the true light now shineth. ⁹ He that saith, he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness until now. ¹⁰ He that loveth his brother, abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes.
