² There they made him a supper, and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them who sat at table with him.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came to him a woman;

³ And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very costly; and shaking the box, she poured it on his head.

²⁹ And Levi made him a great entertainment, in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

³⁸ And as they went, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, ⁴⁰ who also sitting at the feet of Jesus, heard his discourse. But Martha was incumbered with much serving; and coming to him she said, Lord, dost thou not care, that my sister hath left me to serve alone? ⁴¹ Bid her therefore help me. But Jesus answering said to her, Martha, Martha! Thou art careful and hurried about many things: ⁴² But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her.

³⁷ Happy are those servants, whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching; verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to table, and will come forth and serve them.

¹² Then said he also to him that had invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at table? But I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

⁴³ And having spoken thus, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ And he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapt about with a napkin. Jesus saith to them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁹ Now much people of the Jews knew that he was there, and came not only for the sake of Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ But the chief priests consulted, how to kill Lazarus also.

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me.
