¹ “Keep silent before me, islands, and let the peoples renew their strength. Let them come near, then let them speak. Let’s meet together for judgment.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me. ⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me. ⁷ There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

³ Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!

Can you thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰ “Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.

¹⁸ “Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh: “Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered! ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand, for God is with us.”

¹¹ It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

¹ Come near, you nations, to hear! Listen, you peoples. Let the earth and all it contains hear, the world, and everything that comes from it.

⁶ Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, “Be strong!” ⁷ So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smoothes with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, “It is good;” and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter.

²¹ Produce your cause,” says Yahweh. “Bring out your strong reasons!” says the King of Jacob. ²² “Let them announce and declare to us what will happen! Declare the former things, what they are, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or show us things to come.

¹⁶ “Come near to me and hear this: “From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it happened, I was there.” Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me with his Spirit.

¹ Listen, islands, to me. Listen, you peoples, from afar: Yahweh has called me from the womb; from the inside of my mother, he has mentioned my name.

⁸ He who justifies me is near. Who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me.

¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’ ¹¹ Hurry and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves together.” Cause your mighty ones to come down there, Yahweh.

¹ Listen now to what Yahweh says: “Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear what you have to say. ² Hear, you mountains, Yahweh’s controversy, and you enduring foundations of the earth; for Yahweh has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel. ³ My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me!

²⁰ But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”

¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before Yahweh; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation!”
