¹⁹ For your obedience has come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this your so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life; neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies; but have asked for yourself understanding to discern judgment; ¹² Behold, I have done according to your words: lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like unto you.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will you come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

² And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; ³ And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

²² For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are foolish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be all of you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

³ Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

²⁰ Brethren, be not children in understanding: nevertheless in malice be all of you children, but in understanding be men.

¹⁵ Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love (o. agape) unto all the saints, ¹⁶ Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; ¹⁷ That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit (o. pneuma) of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: ¹⁸ The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that all of you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

¹⁷ Wherefore be all of you not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love (o. agape) may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

¹⁵ That all of you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom all of you shine as lights in the world;

³ We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, ⁴ Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the (o. agape) love which all of you have to all the saints, ⁵ For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof all of you heard before in the (o. logos) word of the truth of the gospel; ⁶ Which has come unto you, as it is in all the world; and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day all of you heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: ⁷ As all of you also learned of Epaphras our dear fellow servant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; ⁸ Who also declared unto us your (o. agape) love in the (o. pneuma) Spirit. ⁹ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that all of you might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

¹⁶ Let the (o. logos) word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

² We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; ³ Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, (o. agape) and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

⁸ For from you sounded out the word (o. logos) of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. ⁹ For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how all of you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

⁶ But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, (o. agape) and that all of you have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you: ⁷ Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: ⁸ For now we live, if all of you stand fast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God; ¹⁰ Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

¹⁵ And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹³ Who is a wise man and imbued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if all of you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be implored, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
