¹ The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

¹⁸ Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened in this way: When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.

¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men came from the east to Jerusalem, ² Saying, Where is he who has been born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him.

¹⁶ And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

²⁷ And when Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Son of David, have mercy on us.

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of that region, and cried to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

⁴² What do you think of the Christ? whose son is he? They said to him, The Son of David. ⁴³ He said to them, How then does David in the spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ The LORD said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet? ⁴⁵ If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?

³¹ And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give to him the throne of his father David:

⁶⁹ And has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; ⁷⁰ As he spoke by the mouths of his holy prophets, from long ago:

⁴² Has not the scripture said, That Christ comes from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, the village where David lived?

³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath that he would seat one of his descendants upon his throne;

²² And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfill all my will. ²³ Of this man's descendants God, according to his promise, has raised up for Israel a Saviour, Jesus.

³ Concerning his Son, who was born a descendant of David according to the flesh;

¹³ For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not given to Abraham, or to his descendants, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

⁵ To them belong the fathers, and from them, according to the flesh, came Christ, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He does not say, And to seeds, as to many; but to one, And to your seed, which is Christ.

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to you to testify of these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star.
