⁹ Then God said: »Let the waters below the atmosphere be gathered into one place. Let the dry land appear.« It was so.

⁸ »Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb?

⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He puts the ocean depth in his storehouses.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) The earth and all it contains the world and those who dwell in it belong to Jehovah. ² For He has ordained it upon the seas and decreed it upon the rivers.

⁵ The sea is his. He made it and his hands formed the dry land.

³ You lay the beams of your upper chambers in the waters. You make the clouds your chariot. You walk upon the wings of the wind.

⁵ You established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not be unstable forever. ⁶ You covered it with the deep like a garment. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ They fled at your rebuke. At the sound of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose and the valleys sank down to the place you appointed for them. ⁹ You set a boundary that they may not go beyond. They will not return to cover the earth.

⁵ To the one who made the heavens with skill. His loving kindness is everlasting. ⁶ To him who spread out the earth above the waters. His loving kindness is everlasting.

⁷ All the rivers run into the sea yet the sea is not full. The rivers return to the place where they began.

²² »Do you not reverence (respect) me?« Asks Jehovah. »Do you not tremble [with awe] in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier it cannot cross. Although the waves toss continuously, they cannot break through. Although they roar, they cannot cross it.

⁹ He replied: »I am Hebrew and I respect Jehovah, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.«

⁵ For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God,

⁶ And he swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that are in it, and the earth, and the things that are in it, and the sea, and the things there, that there would be no more delay.
