¹⁸ When God finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of God.

¹⁹ The magicians said to the king: »It is the finger of God!« (God has done this!) But the king was stubborn. Just as Jehovah predicted, the king would not listen to Moses and Aaron.

¹² Jehovah said to Moses: »Come up on the mountain and stay here for a while. I will give you the two stone tablets on which I have written the laws that my people must obey.«

¹⁸ Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain. He was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

¹⁵ Moses went back down the mountain. He carried the two stone tablets with the commandments written on both sides. ¹⁶ God made the tablets and engraved the commandments on them.

¹ Jehovah said to Moses: »Cut two more stone tablets like the first ones. I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets that you smashed. ² »Be ready in the morning. Come up on Mount Sinai and present yourself to me there on top of the mountain. ³ »No man may come with you or even be seen anywhere on the mountain. Even the flocks and herds may not graze in front of this mountain.« ⁴ Moses cut two more stone tablets. Early the next morning he carried them up Mount Sinai, just as Jehovah commanded.

²⁸ Moses was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread or drink water. He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments (Ten Words). ²⁹ Moses came down from Mount Sinai. The two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he came down from the mountain. Moses did not know that the skin of his face glowed because he spoke with God.

¹³ »He told you what you must do to keep the covenant he made with you. You must obey the Ten Commandments, which he wrote on two stone tablets.

⁹ »When I went up on the mountain to get the stone tablets, the tablets of the promise that Jehovah made to you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights without food or water. ¹⁰ »Then Jehovah gave me the two stone tablets inscribed by God’s finger (Holy Spirit). On them were written all the words Jehovah spoke to you from the fire on the mountain on the day of the assembly. ¹¹ »At the end of forty days and nights Jehovah gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

²² »Jehovah spoke to us when we gathered on the mountain. He spoke with a loud voice from the dark fiery cloud. Jehovah gave us these words, and only these. Then he wrote them on two flat tablets of stone and gave them to me.

³³ »This is the covenant (agreement) that I will make with Israel after those days,« declares Jehovah. »I will put my teachings (Law) inside them. I will write those teachings (Law) on their hearts (inner man) (mind) (will) (conscience) (understanding). I will be their God, and they will be my people.«

²⁸ »But if I cast out demons by God’s Spirit, then the kingdom of God has come to you.

²⁰ »If I use the finger (power) (Spirit) (Exodus 31:18) (2 Corinthians 3:3) of God to cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you?

³ It is known that you are a letter of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is not written on tablets of stone, but on tablets of flesh that are of the heart.

⁷ The ministry of death was written and engraved on stones. Glory came with it so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses. And this glory was passing away. ⁸ How shall the ministry of the Spirit not be with glory?
